Job description

Title: Plasma Operator

Department: Fabrication
Reports To: Production Supervisor
Classification: Non-Exempt

Shift: 2nd

Position Summary

The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of fabrication equipment to produce high-quality parts in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner. This role plays a key part in meeting production goals while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely set up, operate, and monitor fabrication equipment, including:
  • Amada Turret Punch Press
  • Trumpf 3040 Laser
  • Wysong Shear
  • Amada Press Brake
  • Water Jet and Plasma Cutting systems
  • Interpret work orders, part programs, and blueprints to ensure proper machine setup and tooling selection
  • Perform complete machine setups, including program verification, tooling selection, and material matching
  • Understand and apply proper die clearance and forming techniques
  • Load and position various materials, including steel, aluminum, and stainless steel
  • Measure finished parts using tape measures, calipers, and micrometers; make setup adjustments as needed to maintain accuracy
  • Accurately document production data on routing and inspection sheets
  • Operate Forklifts and overhead cranes in accordance with safety guidelines
  • Collaborate with team members to support workflow and production efficiency
  • Identify and report equipment issues, quality concerns, or process deviations to the Department Lead, Production Supervisor, or Quality Control
  • Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and quality standards at all times

Specific Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong understanding of fractions, decimals, and basic shop math
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred
  • Training in PPE, GHS, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO); onsite training available if needed
  • Forklift and overhead crane certification preferred, onsite training available

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, grasping, and reaching overhead or outward
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
