Job summary: Work closely with operations and maintenance to reduce cost and improve performance. Work closely with quality department to ensure process stabilization. Work with safety, environmental, engineering on improvement projects. Position requires working different schedule, if needed. Position is also responsible in supporting the rod mill supervisor as back up, if needed.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Reheat furnace functions and controls
  • Lap Laser functions and set up for recipes
  • Analyze delays for performance improvement
  • "Rolling" knowledge
  • Area/Volume/Flow rate/Speed
  • Pass design
  • Mill stand set up
  • Improve cost and efficiency
  • Projects - RM Representative
  • Automation
  • Create reports and ppt slides
  • Train new employees to the area

Supervisory responsibilities: None.

Education and/or experience: BS in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university and three years related experience and/or training; will consider comparable work experience in lieu of degree. Must have ROLLING EXPERIENCE.

Mathematical skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer skills: Excellent computer skills including use of MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and e-mail. Knowledge of Excel Macro functions. Proficient in Wonderware HMI programming.

Other skills and abilities: Excellent leadership presentation and reasoning skills. Good mechanical aptitude. Assertive and goal oriented, self-starter with a positive attitude, high achiever with motivational skills. Must be organized and be able to interface effectively with other members of supervision and personnel from all departments.

Physical demands: Required standing up, walking, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. Occasionally sit due to certain project works.

Work environment:

  • Frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold and heat
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles
  • Risk of electrical shock and vibrations
  • Noise level in the work environment is loud

PAY RANGE: $70,000 - $80,000 (SG 23)
