Job description

IFP Motion Solutions Inc. is seeking a talented and driven Project Engineer to join their ValvePak group, responsible for custom hydraulic manifold and circuit design across low- to high-volume products. In this role you will own projects from concept through delivery; working directly with customers to define requirements, designing the circuit and manifold solution, and coordinating closely with the shop floor to bring each build to completion. While you will take responsibility for your individually assigned projects, the company provides extensive resources in support of your work. This is a great opportunity for someone with a hydraulics or design background who wants to grow; willing to train the right candidate.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Own custom manifold and hydraulic circuit design projects from concept through production for low- to high-volume products.
  • Manage projects start to finish, including timelines, quoting, budgets, and deliverables with a strong focus on the customer.
  • Interact directly with customers to understand their application, define scope, and develop solutions that meet stated requirements.
  • Design hydraulic circuits and manifolds in AutoCAD, including schematic development and manifold layouts.
  • Size and select appropriate hydraulic components to meet performance and application requirements.
  • Define a project budget, control costs, and work with vendors to obtain pricing and set appropriate customer expectations.
  • Design and witness system tests, and document any design or as-built changes.
  • Coordinate heavily with the shop floor to ensure correct understanding of project scope, schematics, design, and system requirements, and to resolve production issues.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, BOMs, and revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Occasionally support system set-up and troubleshooting at customer sites as needed.

About IFP:

IFP Motion Solutions Inc. is a growing motion control corporation headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The business spans 13 states with four physical locations: Cedar Rapids, Minneapolis, Houston, and Kansas City. It employs 210+ team members across: Engineering, Manufacturing, Assembly, Hydraulic Repair, Field Service, Warehouse & Distribution, Customer Service, Purchasing, Accounting, Marketing, and Sales.

IFP's locations collaborate to serve a unique blend of manufacturing, repair & refurbishing, design engineering, and components distribution. Their customers include industrial manufacturers, mobile integrations, and fluid power OEMs. Combined with their knowledgeable sales team and expansive inventory, they can design, prototype, manufacture, or service any conceivable motion control system.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of physics, materials, and design principles.
  • Experience in AutoCAD or similar for schematic design and manifold layouts.
  • Excellent attention to detail. Must be willing and able to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as an individual and in a team and successfully interact with customers at multiple levels of responsibility in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Ability to work on-site full-time and coordinate closely with the shop floor.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to own multiple projects simultaneously and manage competing timelines.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college/university (strongly preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and circuits.
  • Experience sizing and selecting hydraulic components for an application.
  • Prior experience with manifold design and HyDraw or similar circuit design software.
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • Prior experience in a custom-build or made-to-order manufacturing environment, or in a multi-disciplined engineering environment.
  • Willingness to travel for occasional field support. Typically up to 15%.

Benefits

Starting wage commensurate with the experience level of the candidate. Enjoy a rewarding work environment and competitive benefits, including 401(k) and Profit Sharing with financial advisor support, medical, dental, vision plans, life and pet insurance, wellness program, and fitness club subsidies.
