Job description

Position Overview

We have an immediate opening for Process Engineers to support projects across the Process Industries and Water/Wastewater markets. You will be part of a growing organization that develops practical, constructible process engineering solutions for customers across North America. These solutions are designed to transition seamlessly from concept and detailed design through construction, commissioning, and successful project delivery. In this role, you will provide process engineering support for evaluation, selection, design, optimization, and implementation of process systems associated with Kiewit’s EPC projects and pursuits. Project types may include data centers, gasification facilities, biofuels, fuel generation, renewable fuels, industrial process facilities, industrial water treatment, wastewater treatment, water reuse, and other related process infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience developing process engineering deliverables, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, evaluating vendor data, supporting process simulations, and contributing to technical decisions throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires strong communication, technical curiosity, and the ability to work within project budgets and schedules while supporting high-quality engineering deliverables.

Kiewit is one of North America’s largest and most respected engineering and construction organizations. Kiewit’s commitment to safety, quality and environmental stewardship is ingrained in everything we do. It’s visible in our core values, the work that we build and in our people. With over $18B in revenue and over 32,000 employees, we operate in 8 different market segments designing and building large and complex structures throughout North America! If you are looking for a career, with stability and a diverse portfolio of design/build projects to work on - look no further! We are an employee-owned company which fosters dedication and commitment to project success and are positioned as a key player in meeting growing electricity demands. With top notch health benefits, 20 days paid time off, a wealth-building 401K plan, and unbeatable growth opportunities - we are deeply invested in the future of our employees.

District Overview

The Kiewit Water Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and control, structural, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on collaborative Design-Build (progressive and/or fixed price) and EPC delivery models for complex water projects. The team brings project solutions to life across North America in the following areas:

• Water Treatment
• Potable Municipal and Groundwater Desalination
• Advanced Water Reuse
• Groundwater Remediation
• Storm water Recycling
• Industrial Water Treatment
• Wastewater Treatment
• Biosolids Treatment
• Pipelines and Conveyance

Location

This role will be based out of our Lenexa, Kansas office or our Lone Tree Colorado office. We offer excellent relocation. Some consideration may be made for candidates with more senior level experience directly in Municipal and Industrial Wastewater and water treatment design, with EPC project experience, to be in other Kiewit Hub locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process engineering support for process industries and water/wastewater projects, including process evaluation, selection, design development, optimization, and lifecycle cost considerations.
  • Develop, prepare, and review process engineering deliverables, including block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, process simulations, design basis documents, line lists, calculations, equipment sizing, datasheets, technical specifications, reports, drawings, and applicable design standards.
  • Perform process design activities related to hydraulics, material balances, utility requirements, equipment sizing, process controls, interdisciplinary coordination, and technical evaluations of vendor proposals, equipment data, and supplier documentation.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams, including mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and controls, civil, structural, estimating, construction, and commissioning teams, to support technical deliverables, resolve design questions, and maintain quality, consistency, and technical accuracy.
  • Communicate process-specific progress, deadlines, deliverable status, and technical issues that may affect project scope, schedule, or budget through project meetings, kickoff meetings, weekly status meetings, lead reports, design reviews, and model reviews.
  • Provide technical support for issues associated with design, construction, equipment, commissioning, and/or operations while executing engineering work within established project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Contribute to the improvement of company resources, tools, workflows, and design standards while developing industry knowledge and process engineering skills through active project and pursuit work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, Civil/Environmental, or related Engineering discipline.
  • 3 to 8 years of experience in process development, conceptual design, detailed design, process engineering, or similar technical functions within process industries, industrial facilities, water/wastewater, or related markets.
  • Experience developing or supporting engineering deliverables such as block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, design basis documents, equipment datasheets, specifications, line lists, process calculations, and technical reports.
  • Experience with process simulation, hydraulic modeling, equipment sizing, process controls coordination, and interdisciplinary engineering coordination is preferred.
  • Experience performing vendor data reviews and technical evaluations of equipment or process systems is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer registration preferred, or ability and intent to pursue PE registration within the next few years.
  • Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local regulations, codes, standards, and permitting requirements related to process systems, industrial facilities, water treatment, wastewater treatment, or discharge requirements is preferred.
  • Must be willing and available to accommodate intermittent travel, with 20% to 30% maximum travel expected.
