Job description

Benefits Administrator

The Benefits Administrator manages and optimizes comprehensive employee benefits programs and organizational insurance portfolios. This role partners with HR and leadership to analyze trends, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance benefits strategy while serving as the primary resource for benefits education, open enrollment, vendor management, and risk mitigation.

We are looking for a candidate local to the Columbus, OH area, as this role requires some in-office presence.

What You'll Do:

  • Manage relationships with third-party service providers including brokers, underwriters, and administrators
  • Evaluate carriers and review policies for Employee Group Benefits, Health & Welfare Plans, Profit Sharing & Savings Plans
  • Coordinate with VP of Human Resources and Chief Risk & Compliance Risk Officer on incident reports, claims, and losses
  • Perform risk management and insurance due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures
  • Partner with Litigation Team on all litigated matters
  • Develop and implement standards, processes, and best practices for Employee Group Benefits and risk management
  • Identify potential risk exposures, recommend solutions, implement approved programs, and promote loss prevention
  • Oversee all phases of claims process and ensure compliance monitoring
  • Manage workers' compensation and incident reporting program with HR team
  • Review contracts and policies for accuracy in rates, coverage, limitations, and signatures
  • Lead development and presentation of executive summaries for insurance renewals and annual benefits enrollment
  • Enter plan changes into HRIS system for annual enrollment processes
  • Educate employees on benefits programs and serve as primary resource for inquiries and claims
  • Other duties as assigned

What You'll Need:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Superior organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in analytical tools and data interpretation
  • High commitment to quality, ethics, integrity, and compliance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to engage at all organizational levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead and collaborate effectively
  • Proven decision-making and problem-solving capabilities
  • Detail-oriented with ability to multitask and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Comprehensive knowledge of insurance types, language, and terminology
  • Strong knowledge of self-funded/stop loss market and fully insured plans
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Experience with or willingness to learn AI tools and emerging technologies

What Can Set You Apart:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Experience with self-funded insurance including claims reporting, regulatory findings, and audits
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager) experience
