The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) is responsible for maintaining agency-wide environmental and occupational health and training compliance. To achieve this goal, the Training Division of OEHS continues to design and develop EHS training modules and provide data metrics on EHS training and support to all bureaus to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health and safety laws, rules and regulations. Under general guidance of a Training Manager with direct supervision from the EHS Training Specialist, the selected candidate will assist this division in serving the EHS Training Compliance needs of the Agency by :
1.Assisting with efforts for developing and revising EHS training modules
2.Producing analytics with graphical representations for quarterly EHS meetings.
3.Having a fundamental understating of Computer-Based Training (CBT) development and production with a working knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements of DEP.
4.Relating compliance costs for formal instructor-led training (ILT) classes with produced metrics.
5.Forecasting future needs and compliance trends and impact on training and compliance at DEP.
6.Collaborating with OEHS IT and EHS systems specialists to track trainees and their compliance.
7.Having knowledge of database maintenance, Quality Assurance and Quality Control metrics on the system.
8.Working with Training Coordinators and Information Technology professions to assist in training and compliance.
The EHS Program Development Section is responsible for developing EHS policies and guidelines to ensure operational compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws, rules, and regulations. The selected candidate will also assist this division in serving the EHS needs of the Agency.
EHS policy and guidelines updates.
1.Assist OEHS with special projects as needed
2.Assisting in the EHS policy training module development.
3.Assisting in routine Section activities, including regulatory research for OEHS and preparing report.
In addition, the summer intern will develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony.

Qualifications
As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter / spring term of the Program year).
NOTE : Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
