Job description

Banker Development Program Summer Analyst

Susser Bank, a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial Texas regional bank, is seeking high-performing college students for its 2027 Banker Development Program Summer Analyst Program. This paid, full-time, 100% in-office summer program introduces commercial banking through structured credit training, meaningful transaction exposure, executive mentorship, and hands-on exposure across the commercial lending platform.

Summer Analysts will gain exposure to the commercial lending lifecycle, including financial statement analysis, underwriting, approval, closing, servicing, annual reviews, portfolio management, and client relationship development. Participants will strengthen technical credit skills while building the professional judgment, communication abilities, and business acumen needed for a successful career in commercial banking and financial services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete structured training in commercial lending, financial statement analysis, credit risk management, underwriting fundamentals, loan structuring, and portfolio management.
  • Develop foundational proficiency in financial spreading, cash flow analysis, global debt service calculations, covenant analysis, and risk identification.
  • Build an understanding of Susser Bank credit policy, approval processes, regulatory expectations, and credit culture.
  • Assist in analyzing financial, credit, and collateral information for new and existing commercial credit relationships.
  • Support the preparation of clear, concise, and well-supported credit memoranda, financial spreads, risk assessments, and transaction summaries for presentation to credit committees.
  • Identify material credit considerations and assist in evaluating transaction structures consistent with Bank policies and sound credit practices.
  • Participate in borrower and lender discussions, diligence activities, underwriting reviews, credit committees, and departmental credit meetings while gaining exposure to Commercial & Industrial (C&I), Commercial Real Estate (CRE), and specialty lending transactions.
  • Support phases of commercial lending.
  • Review incoming financial statements, update financial spreads, and communicate identified concerns to the credit team.
  • Assist Analysts and other team members with portfolio management activities and ongoing risk monitoring initiatives.
  • Develop a practical understanding of how credit, lending, loan operations, and servicing functions work together to support client relationships.
  • Participate in mentorship opportunities, leadership development activities, team-building events, executive networking sessions, and lender calls facilitated by members of the Credit or Lending teams.
  • Gain exposure to multiple commercial banking career paths while developing a broad understanding of the Bank's business model.
  • Demonstrate ownership, accountability, initiative, and professionalism in completing assignments throughout the eight-week program.
  • Seek and incorporate feedback to continuously improve technical and professional skills.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and business partners across departments.
  • Contribute positively to team culture while supporting service-level expectations and workflow objectives.
  • Develop strong professional relationships throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field, with junior year completed at a minimum before the program begins.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
  • Plan to complete a minimum of 9 semester hours of Accounting coursework, including an intermediate course, before graduation.
  • Demonstrated interest in commercial banking, credit analysis, financial analysis, commercial lending, or financial services.
  • Strong analytical aptitude and ability to interpret financial information.
  • Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; experience with formulas, pivot tables, or financial analysis tools is preferred.
  • Strong quantitative and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience through academic, extracurricular, internship, or work-related activities.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a desire to continuously learn.
  • Professional maturity, accountability, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented culture.
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term career within commercial banking, credit administration, or financial services.
