Job Summary

The Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Programmer develops CNC programs for both Vertical and Horizontal machining centers (VMC (Vertical Machining centers), HMC (Horizontal Machining Centers), Lathe, and Multiaccess). The Programmer produces work holding fixtures, setup sheets including part orientation, work holding and tool selection. The CNC programmer will utilize lean manufacturing tools (lights out manufacturing approaches, SMED (single minute exchange of die), etc. to optimize CNC operations. The position is part of the Machine Shop Operation and interacts across department functions and across functions within the Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Create numerical control programs to control machining of parts on CNC machine tools.
  • Utilize Engineering drawings, and 3D models to translate GD&T, sketches, and design data into optimal NC programs.
  • Utilize CAD/CAM (Mastercam, Solid Works, Fusion) software to translate engineering requirements into optimal NC programs.
  • Generate setup sheets to guide machine configuration, fixture setup, and sequence of operations.
  • Optimize CNC programs to eliminate errors and reduce run-time.
  • Verify CNC programs utilizing verification software (Vericut or Fusion). Perform or observe operation on machine during trial run. Adjust NC programs as required.
  • Responsible for cleanliness, organization, and overall Machine Shop department appearance.
  • Be willing to share knowledge and instruct other members of the department and the company. Pass along skills and information to assist them in their development.
  • Align with CNC programming group on standard tooling, programming standards, and CNC programming approach.
  • Become an independent employee able to analyze problems and formulate plans to overcome challenges and to get work done quickly with a high degree of quality. Make sound and logical decisions and choose the appropriate courses of action based on the parameters of the situation at hand and use continual improvement problem solving skills.
  • Create an ongoing effort to improve the Company and the Machine Shop through personal action and by contributing ideas to support both the Department and Company’s ongoing improvement efforts.
  • Understand Mizuho OSI’s business objectives and the relationship between the Machine Shop and those objectives; to support and follow the Corporate Vision, Mission & Values Statements and to maintain the services and quality levels set by Mizuho OSI, and to continually enable Mizuho OSI to be a great place to work.
  • Understand, follow and support Mizuho OSI’s internal Quality System policies, procedures and work instructions including but not limited to applicable external regulations (21 Code of Federal Regulations Part 820 Quality System Regulations and applicable International Standards).

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High school diploma and at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Must have experience and proficiency in 3 and 4 axis programming in Mastercam and/or Autodesk Fusion. Fluent knowledge and understanding 5 axis programming is preferred.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Good working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing required and able to work in both Metric and imperial units.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have trouble-shooting skills for tool deflection and chatter; able to maximize cutting speeds and feeds to prolong cutter life and reduce run time.
  • Able to use micrometers, depth gauges and calipers and other metrology equipment.
  • Utilize Six Sigma practices. White, Yellow and Green belt.
  • Must be willing to work any scheduled shifts as appropriate and based on business needs.
  • Neat and professional appearance and outgoing people-oriented personality which conveys pride in working for Mizuho OSI and which is demonstrated with a ready smile and a willingness to assist others.
  • Excellent computer skills including operating Windows based personal computers, various office equipment and machines, and telephone system. Ability to efficiently and effectively use Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to clearly express oneself verbally and in writing in the English language. Ability to communicate effectively with employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Excellent customer focus with a high sense of urgency. Ability to provide excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to function calmly in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
