Job description:

Do you take ownership of your work?

Do you believe accuracy is non-negotiable? Do you anticipate issues before they become problems, communicate proactively, and take pride in producing work that is complete the first time?

If so, you may be the Senior Trust & Estate Paralegal we're looking for.

Burrey Law Group, Inc. is a boutique law firm focused on Estate Planning, Probate, and Trust Administration. We are seeking an experienced paralegal with at least seven years of recent trust and estate experience who can independently manage complex matters while delivering exceptional client service.

Our standard is simple: Do it right the first time. We value professionals who take ownership of outcomes, exercise sound judgment, maintain high standards, and work collaboratively to achieve the best result for every client.

Who Succeeds at Burrey Law Group?

The people who thrive here consistently demonstrate:

  • Integrity & Stewardship – You protect client confidences, act ethically, and treat every matter as if it were your own.
  • Ownership & Follow-Through – You don't wait to be reminded. You take responsibility, close loops, and follow through on commitments.
  • Organization & Planning – You manage multiple matters, deadlines, and priorities without losing control of the details.
  • Sound Judgment – You recognize issues early, think critically, and know when to seek guidance.
  • Attention to Detail – You produce work that is accurate, organized, and requires minimal revision.
  • Proactivity – You anticipate problems before they arise and take initiative to keep matters moving.
  • Communication – You communicate clearly, professionally, and promptly with clients, attorneys, courts, and third parties.
  • Teamwork & Respect – You support your colleagues and understand that exceptional client service is a team effort.
  • Coachability & Humility – You welcome feedback, learn continuously, and strive to improve.
  • High Standards – Good enough isn't good enough. You take pride in producing exceptional work.

What You'll Own

You will independently manage probate, trust administration, and estate planning matters from inception through completion. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing assigned probate and trust administration matters through final distribution.
  • Preparing petitions, notices, inventories, accountings, court filings, and distribution documents.
  • Reviewing trusts, wills, amendments, deeds, beneficiary designations, and related estate planning documents.
  • Drafting estate planning documents using WealthCounsel or similar software.
  • Coordinating with clients, beneficiaries, financial institutions, accountants, courts, and opposing counsel.
  • Monitoring deadlines and ensuring matters progress efficiently.
  • Assisting with trust funding, asset transfers, and final distributions.
  • Maintaining complete, accurate, and organized electronic files.
  • Identifying legal, procedural, and administrative issues early and communicating them promptly to the supervising attorney.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • At least seven years of recent trust and estate paralegal experience.
  • Experience independently managing probate and trust administrations from opening through final distribution.
  • Active California Notary Public commission.
  • Qualifications to serve as a paralegal under California Business & Professions Code §6450.
  • Strong working knowledge of California probate law and procedures.
  • Exceptional written communication, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with legal practice management software.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional accuracy.

Preferred

  • Experience with WealthCounsel.
  • Experience with Smokeball.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Familiarity with fiduciary income tax and estate tax returns (Forms 1041, 1040, 709, and 706).

What Success Looks Like

Within your first year, you will be someone the attorneys can rely on to:

  • Manage assigned matters with minimal supervision.
  • Meet deadlines consistently.
  • Produce work that rarely requires significant revision.
  • Keep clients informed and supported throughout their matter.
  • Identify issues before they become problems.
  • Strengthen the Firm by improving consistency, efficiency, and client service.
