Position Description
Scribe medical reports for inclusion in the patient's medical record under the supervision of the physician/mid-level provider. Assist in accurately documenting office visits, office procedures, in office administration of medications, etc. including examination, diagnosis and follow-up instructions as directed by the provider. Enter verbal orders for labs, imaging, medications and surgical procedures as directed by the provider.
Certified or Registered Medical Assistant and/or medical terminology knowledge preferred.
Above average typing skills required.
Essential Functions:
Communicate to manager issues relating to scribing (e.g., new canned text that has been developed, an issue a physician may be having, etc.) as needed and in transcription meetings. Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the transcription area.
Perform quality reviews to provide feedback to manager and Director for continuous improvement. This includes tracking of character counts, turn-around times by work type, , and other reports to support daily input/output.
Coordinate the training of new scribe’s and provide necessary support for their growth and development. Assist physicians in creating and updating canned text, as appropriate.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Follows the Hospital Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plans, attends all required Safety training programs, and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards.
