Job Description
Employees in this class provide unarmed security and patrol functions to enforce rules, regulations, codes of conduct, and City ordinances on City property. Employees in this class, under general supervision, patrol assigned City properties to provide security and safety for the employees, visitors, tenants, and property. Priorities for this position include maintaining a presence to deter rules of conduct violations, addressing incidents, de?escalating situations, and treating individuals with dignity and respect.
Knowledge of the principles and methods of physical, building, and grounds security is required. Specific guidelines including laws, regulations, City policies, and procedures exist; however, the employee must exercise judgment in determining the appropriate guideline to apply. The work is performed independently with general direction from a supervisor. Contacts include City staff, occupants, law enforcement officials, and the general public for the purpose of providing security, regulation enforcement, assistance, and exchange of information.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Patrol the property and monitor surveillance systems in designated areas to enforce regulations and codes of conduct, prevent and check for property damage, and identify potential safety hazards.
- Respond to security or emergency situations and contact appropriate staff, law enforcement or other emergency personnel. Secure facilities at end of shift.
- Maintain routine records and statistics and prepare written reports. Prepare accurate, clear, and comprehensive activity, incident and service reports.
- Report malfunctioning of electrical equipment and report buildings or grounds in need of maintenance or repair.
