The Elevator Pitch

Are you ready to be the backbone of the systems and infrastructure that keep a fast-growing security technology company running smoothly? Do you enjoy owning the day-to-day platforms, systems, and cloud infrastructure that the whole business depends on?

Evolv is seeking a Systems Engineer to administer, operate, and continuously improve our core IT systems—from Microsoft 365 and virtualization to cloud infrastructure and disaster recovery. Reporting to the Senior Director of Cybersecurity & Technology, you'll be the reliable technical engine behind Evolv's IT operations, working alongside a Network & Cybersecurity Engineer peer who owns network and security.

You'll collaborate across the organization, build trusted partnerships with stakeholders, and serve as a subject matter expert on day-to-day systems and cloud operations. If you're energized by keeping complex systems running smoothly and making every employee's day a little easier, this role is for you.

Success in the Role: What are performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

In the first 30 days, you will:

  • Get to know the IT team and the systems/platforms they currently support
  • Start building relationships with key stakeholders throughout the company
  • Gain familiarity with the current systems toolstack: Microsoft 365, virtualization/backup infrastructure, AWS/Azure, and disaster recovery processes
  • Learn Evolv's data management practices and how systems operations supports them

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Begin implementing or improving processes that measurably reduce operational risk and downtime
  • Build trust-based relationships with peers in IT and key stakeholders across business units
  • Become an established subject matter expert on Evolv's systems, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure
  • Take ownership of offsite/disaster recovery replication and testing cadence

By the end of the first year, you will:

  • Be recognized as a trusted subject matter expert across systems administration, virtualization, and cloud operations
  • Have driven measurable improvements to IT operational maturity and resilience
  • Successfully supported corporate data management initiatives, including classification, retention, and deletion practices
  • Developed and documented systems and processes that empower the broader IT team and reduce single points of failure
  • Be seen as a go-to resource by colleagues across the company for day-to-day systems questions and best practice guidance

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

Systems, Infrastructure & Operations:

  • Administer Microsoft 365, including Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Own virtualization (Nutanix) and backup (Rubrik) infrastructure, including Windows and Linux guest VMs
  • Manage offsite/disaster recovery replication and testing
  • Support corporate data management initiatives: data classification, retention, and deletion
  • Operate day-to-day AWS/Azure infrastructure: EC2, S3, resource groups, cost management and budgeting
  • Provide front-line escalation support and mentoring to IT teammates; maintain runbooks and documentation
  • Act as a trusted technology advisor to internal stakeholders on day-to-day systems needs

Leadership, Team Structure & Culture

You will join the IT organization as a direct report to the Senior Director of Cybersecurity & Technology, working alongside a Network & Cybersecurity Engineer peer who owns network infrastructure and security operations.

This is a hands-on, collaborative team that takes security and operational excellence seriously. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on deep technical impact—your job is to keep Evolv's enterprise systems, services, and cloud infrastructure running smoothly through the processes and automation you build. You'll have meaningful autonomy over how you approach problems and are actively encouraged to bring creative solutions, identify improvement opportunities, and advocate for better ways of working.

You'll work alongside teammates who share your drive for continuous improvement, and you'll have a manager who values initiative, trusts the team to execute, and wants to hear your ideas.

Where is the role located?

This role is based out of Evolv HQ in Waltham, Massachusetts. This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 3 days per week on-site. Fully remote candidates will not be considered.
