Job description

Commodity Manager - Software

Rockwell Automation is a global technology leader focused on helping the world's manufacturers be more productive, sustainable, and agile. With more than 28,000 employees who make the world better every day, we know we have something special. Behind our customers - amazing companies that help feed the world, provide life-saving medicine on a global scale, and focus on clean water and green mobility - our people are energized problem solvers that take pride in how the work we do changes the world for the better.

We welcome all makers, forward thinkers, and problem solvers who are looking for a place to do their best work. And if that's you we would love to have you join us!

We are looking for a Commodity Manager focused on Software for our Rockwell products. With guidance from the Manager of IT Strategic Sourcing, you will develop the sourcing strategy for assigned software and technology commodities and suppliers, using input from the sourcing team and key global/regional stakeholders within the business units. The sourcing strategy will drive the continuous improvement of Rockwell's Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for the assigned commodities. You will work a hybrid schedule at either our Milwaukee, WI or Mayfield Heights, OH location.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Drive implementation of sourcing strategies for assigned commodities by communicating, monitoring, and managing business unit compliance, while establishing strong cross-functional relationships (IT, Engineering, Plant Operations, Suppliers, Product Quality) and bringing a Strategic Sourcing perspective to key processes.
  • Drive AI adoption by developing use cases, defining potential ROI, and implementing skills or agentseither self-directed or with technical support.
  • Lead strategic sourcing initiatives within the software supply base, driving results across cross-functional teams, influencing without authority, navigating uncertainty, and acting as a catalyst for change to achieve business goals and overcome barriers.
  • Develop expertise in IT strategies, business unit products, and functional needs for commodities and services; partner with stakeholders to understand objectives and translate them into effective sourcing strategies, while staying current on market trends, supplier economics, and best practice sourcing.
  • Manage global suppliers by monitoring performance across security, quality, delivery, and lead time, and conducting regular strategic business reviews with suppliers and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement of the supply base.
  • Measure and track sourcing KPIs across commodities and services, providing monthly reporting to senior management on key metrics including savings, quality, delivery, lead time, and market trends.
  • Identify and implement Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) reduction opportunities by leading internal and supplier-facing initiatives, driving annual productivity improvements aligned with sourcing strategy (including security expectations, supplier operations, demand management, and supply chain flexibility).
  • Foster an inclusive and engaging culture that supports employee performance, development, and retention.
  • Ensure adherence to sourcing policies, procedures, and standards of business conduct.

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Years of Relevant Work Experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • The ability to travel 10% of the time.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • 5+ years of Commodity Management experience
  • Proven experience in conflict resolution, strategy development and project management.
  • Advanced knowledge of commodities (e.g. electronics, factored product/brand label).
  • Experience managing projects / assignments requiring identification of objectives, resources and/or approaches.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems is essential, such as SAP.
  • Knowledge in data architecture and management applications (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Advanced formal degree.

What We Offer:

  • Health Insurance including Medical, Dental and Vision
  • 401k
  • Paid Time off
  • Parental and Caregiver Leave
  • Flexible Work Schedule where you will work with your manager to enjoy a work schedule that can be flexible with your personal life.
