Senior Systems Software Specialist (Hybrid/Remote)

Job Description

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Systems Software Specialist to join our Corporate IT team in our Canton, MA office or remotely nationwide. This job is responsible for providing strong technical support on decisions and priorities regarding the enterprises Linux systems as well as Websphere Application Server systems architecture and implementation. Leads projects that cover a wide range of complex issues requiring research and analysis. May provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Installs, configures and maintains IBM Websphere Application Server software, as well as some related systems software and utilities, on both Windows and Red Hat Linux servers, according to defined standards.
  • Supports Linux server environment, including server lifecycle management, maintenance/patching, permissions, software installs, vulnerability remediation, and troubleshooting
  • Administers IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) environment including Db2, ILMT software, and BigFix. Supports client install on target systems and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Supports DataDog agent configuration and monitoring for various applications and servers. Opens cases and leverages the platform as needed to troubleshoot and assist in remediating system issues and responding to user requests
  • Maintains and supports complex hardware configurations. Gathers, organizes and analyzes capacity & performance data for individual components (processor, memory or I/O) to address questions, requirements and future needs. Identifies alternatives and recommends the best course of action. Presents findings, including Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and recommendation, to appropriate management level up to Sr. IT Management.
  • Provides SME software and hardware support for responsible technical areas. Performs adequate information gathering and provides timely communication updates during resolution process
  • Consistently looks for improvement areas within the organization and performs routine research and design to strengthen technology portfolio
  • Researches, analyzes, prepares CBA and reports findings to appropriate management level up to Sr. IT Management. Identifies & implements major and minor process improvements within the Infrastructure department.
  • Provides input to and recommendations for Infrastructure departmental procedures and practices. Provides complete documentation for software and hardware installations, datacenter procedures, group procedures, problems and changes.
  • Defines and leads large projects, covering more than one software, hardware or service component that includes people from any area of IT. Provides project planning & definition, resource acquisition, project reporting, task monitoring and resource coordination. Participates in the completion of other IT projects as required.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including Websphere Application Server (Network Deployment and Base), Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office, and other applicable applications and programs.
  • Experience with RHEL or other Linux systems, including system installation, configuration, hardening, etc.
  • Experience with containers, including Red Hat OpenShift
  • Automation experience (Ansible, Terraform, GitHub Actions, etc.) is a plus
  • Cloud familiarity (Azure) is a plus
  • Must demonstrate strong technical competence in several areas.
  • Must have proven analytical, decision making, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with writing SOPs, creating Visio diagrams, maintain systems to vendor best practices, and collaborating effectively with team members
  • Desire to continue education and expand knowledge to continue meeting shifts in technology capabilities and organizational needs
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or another related field is required.
  • Masters degree desirable
  • 5+ years of experience as a Senior Systems Programmer or Administrator.
Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires, but your recruiter will share more specific compensation information with you during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $113,000 $160,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Hoboken, NJ; and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $143,000 -$167,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include: 401(k) savings and annual contributions of up to 12% of annual salary, competitive paid time off programs, medical, vision and dental plans, mental health support programs, life and disability insurance, paid parental leave and a variety of voluntary benefits.
