Job Title: Engineering Technician
Job Description
The Engineering Technician designs and develops prototype products, tooling, and related processes while supporting product and process development activities in a regulated environment. This role performs hands-on fabrication, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of equipment and processes, with a strong focus on electromechanical systems and compliance with FDA GMP and ISO standards.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop prototype products, tooling, and related manufacturing processes based on in-house or customer requirements.
- Fabricate prototype devices using hand tools, lab equipment, and engineering inputs, ensuring accuracy and repeatability.
- Perform testing on raw materials, components, sub-assemblies, and finished devices using appropriate test equipment.
- Build, assemble, and document processing equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes to support development and production needs.
- Develop pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems for use in equipment and process applications.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, identify root causes, and recommend and implement improvements.
- Create detailed manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and engineering reports.
- Write and execute equipment qualifications and test protocols, and prepare clear technical reports summarizing results.
- Operate molding equipment to support product and process development activities.
- Complete drawings, requisitions, and traceability documentation in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Follow detailed written procedures and work independently to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with project leaders and other team members to support development projects and resolve technical issues.
- Train coworkers on new or existing processes, equipment, and tooling to ensure consistent and safe operation.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace in lab, maintenance, and cleanroom environments.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience with prototyping of products, tooling, or equipment.
- Ability to write and execute test protocols and equipment qualifications.
- Hands-on electrical and mechanical skills, including experience with test equipment.
- Strong electromechanical experience with at least 1 year of technical or mechanical experience.
- Experience working in FDA GMP and ISO regulated environments.
- Ability to document work thoroughly and write clear, concise technical reports.
- Experience with engineering validation activities and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Manual dexterity and ability to work confidently with hand tools and lab equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow detailed procedures accurately.
- Ability to work effectively in lab, maintenance, and cleanroom environments.
- Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and metric units.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Windows.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with molding equipment and processes in a development or production setting.
- Experience in engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry is preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project leaders and cross-functional teams.
- Capability to train coworkers on processes, equipment, and tooling.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in an engineering lab environment, with regular work in lab, maintenance, and cleanroom areas. The position involves hands-on work with hand tools, lab equipment, test equipment, molding equipment, and electromechanical systems. You will use basic computer tools such as Microsoft Office and Windows for documentation and reporting. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ventura, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.
