Senior Software Engineering Manager

Ready to lead a team pushing the boundaries of secure communications?

We're seeking a dynamic engineering leader to head a new Cryptographic software team developing mission-critical capabilities for next-generation U.S. military crypto products. This is your opportunity to lead cutting-edge work in cryptographic software, including quantum-resistant encryption, alongside top engineers in software, hardware, FPGA, and systems design.

As the Senior Software Engineering Manager, you'll guide a high-performing team responsible for developing secure embedded software that will be reviewed and validated by the NSA. You'll have a critical voice from the initial pursuit phase through development, release, and long-term sustainment, ensuring technical excellence while managing cost and schedule.

If you're passionate about national security, leading innovative teams, and solving complex technical challenges, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Do

Lead and Develop a High-Performing Engineering Team: Manage and mentor a team of engineers, from entry level to seasoned professionals. This includes hiring, staffing allocation, and fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.

Grow Talent and Foster Job Satisfaction: Support team members in their professional development goals and career aspirations at Collins Aerospace. Provide constructive performance feedback regularly and collaborate with employees on growth areas.

Collaborate Across Functions: Engage with engineers, engineering leadership, program managers, and shared service organizations to ensure seamless integration of embedded cryptographic solutions. Foster strong networking relationships to support project success.

Champion Product Line Strategy and Development Best Practices: Drive the creation of software solutions that not only exceed our customer expectations but support product line solutions. Promote software development best practices throughout the software development life cycle.

Support Pursuit and Bidding Activities: Actively participate in pursuit activities, including bidding for new programs. Contribute technical expertise and strategic insights to strengthen proposals and secure new business opportunities.

Optimize Staffing and Program Management: Manage staffing levels across multiple programs to ensure alignment with project schedules and resource requirements. Utilize earned value management techniques to monitor and enhance program performance and profitability.

Ensure Compliance and Process Adherence: Uphold Collins' standards and procedures, ensuring all engineering activities comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes and enhance operational effectiveness.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Experience leading engineering teams, including mentoring, task delegation, and cross-functional collaboration in a technical development environment

  • Experience in program execution, including bidding, project planning, Earned Value Management (EVM), and risk and opportunity management

  • Experienced with embedded software development

  • Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with Agile development concepts

  • Experience managing large programs

  • Experience with certification authorities

Do you want to be a part of something bigger? A team whose impact stretches across the world, and even beyond? At Collins Aerospace, our Mission Systems team helps civilian, military and government customers complete their most complex missions whatever and wherever they may be. Our customers depend on us for intelligent and secure communications, missionized systems for specialized aircraft and spacecraft and collaborative space solutions. By joining our team, you'll have your own critical part to play in ensuring our customer succeeds today while anticipating their needs for tomorrow. Are you up for the challenge? Join our mission today.
