Salary: $110,000 - 135,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require at least 4 years of production software development experience in embedded systems, machine vision, or applied machine learning.
• We require strong Python skills and working proficiency in C or C++.
• We require practical computer vision experience with OpenCV and modern object-detection architectures such as the YOLO family, including training and fine-tuning models.
• We require experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow across dataset creation, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
• We require experience decoding barcodes and 2D codes, including Code 128, Code 39, Data Matrix, and QR, using tools such as ZBar, ZXing, or libdmtx, as well as understanding their limitations.
• We require experience deploying models to edge or embedded hardware, such as NVIDIA Jetson.
• We require experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs, including JSON, authentication, and error handling.
• We require familiarity with Git, code review, and continuous integration practices.
• We require the ability to work in person in Miramar, Florida, and directly with equipment on the production floor.
• We prefer experience applying OCR tools such as Tesseract, PaddleOCR, or TrOCR to low-quality industrial images.
• We prefer experience with oriented or rotated object detection, such as OBB heads, DOTA-style datasets, or comparable production applications.
• We prefer industrial camera integration experience, including GigE Vision or USB3 Vision, and practical lens and lighting selection.
• We prefer PLC or controls integration experience in a manufacturing environment.
• We prefer firmware experience with ARM or STM32 platforms and RTOS environments.

Responsibilities:

• We need this role to develop, train, and deploy object-detection and recognition models that identify barcodes, 2D codes, and text on industrial asset labels.
• We need rotation-tolerant detection that handles labels at varied orientations, angles, and distances without operator intervention.
• We need the role to distinguish serial identifiers from other codes on asset labels by building detection, classification, and confidence-scoring logic, including fallback procedures for low-confidence results.
• We need OCR integration for identifiers available only as human-readable text.
• We need the role to build and maintain model data pipelines, including image capture, annotation standards, augmentation, synthetic data, versioned datasets, and reproducible training.
• We need model evaluation criteria to be defined and tracked, including precision, recall, mAP, and per-class failure analysis, with measurable improvement across releases.
• We need inference deployed to production equipments edge hardware and optimized for latency and throughput, using methods such as quantization, ONNX/TensorRT, and batching.
• We need the role to specify and integrate industrial vision hardware, including cameras, optics, lighting, triggering, and mounting geometry.
• We need vision output connected to machine control systems such as PLC/HMI, serial, Modbus, and Ethernet/IP so machine behavior can respond to identification results.
• We need RESTful APIs and services designed and built to transfer serialization data from equipment to back-office and ERP systems, supporting certificates of destruction and audit trails.
• We need field reliability maintained through logging, telemetry, error handling, remote diagnostics, and system update mechanisms.
• We need this role to act as the internal technical owner for external engineering vendors and offshore contractors working on vision, firmware, and robotics programs.
• We need technical scopes of work, acceptance criteria, and milestone gates established, with vendor deliverables assessed against them.
• We need vendor code and architecture reviewed, technical debt identified, and outsourced work redirected or corrected when necessary.
• We need technical coordination maintained with distributed vendor teams across time zones, along with internal documentation that retains organizational knowledge.
• We need support for related automation initiatives, including vision-guided robotic material handling.

We are developing automated asset identification and serialization for our equipment, using vision systems to read, decode, and verify identifiers during the destruction process and create auditable chain-of-custody records for clients. This hands-on individual-contributor role owns the capability end to end, combining production software development with technical oversight of external vendors. The position is based onsite in Miramar, Florida.
