PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Brooksource’s federal client, one of the largest non-profit research institutes, is actively seeking a skilled PostgreSQL Database Administrator for a remote position. As a PostgreSQL DBA, you will play a pivotal role in the design, implementation, support, and upgrades of PostgreSQL databases, with a specific focus on Cloud SQL within the GoogleCloud environment. This role demands expertise in PostgreSQL database administration and a strong background in cloud-based solutions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·Design, configure, deploy, and supportPostgreSQL databases both on-premise and in Google Cloud.

·Collaborate on database development functions, including query optimization and schema design.

·Perform essential database admin tasks such as backups, restores, maintenance, and security configurations.

·Utilize Linux scripting in a production environment for automation and efficiency.

·Lead installations and upgrades, leveraging experience with various Linux Operating Systems.

·Deploy and maintain systems using desired state configuration tools such as Terraform.

·Actively engage in project leadership, ensuring successful initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure.

·Conduct infrastructure needs assessments and evaluate new technologies to enhance and maintain core and enterprise infrastructure.

·Provide expert analysis + support for troubleshooting apps, operating systems, maintenance, and installations.

·Engage external vendors as needed to solve complex problems or bugs.

·Act as a key member of the Infrastructure Team, providing monitoring, investigation, and ongoing support for Google Cloud environment, Linux systems, databases, and storage.

·Occasional after-hours support may be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field with 10 years of experience as a PostgreSQL DatabaseAdministrator or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Proven expertise in PostgreSQL database administration.
• Experience with other databases such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL, and Oracle.
• Experience working in a Google Cloud environment, including CloudSQL and GKE.
• Strong experience with Linux operating systems (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.).
• Ability to troubleshoot & fix complex issues with server hardware, operating systems, databases, and software.
• Effective documentation skills for technical designs and solutions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity with desired state configuration tools, especially Terraform.
• Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python.
• Experience with containerization.
• Proficient in automation practices, including experience with Git and CI/CD.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes and related deployment tools (Flux and Kustomize).
• Background in a scientificenvironment is a plus.
