Position Overview:

Performs routine patient care, support and services in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies, and procedures. Integrates education, technical competence and patient interaction skills to gain confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers. Exercises sound judgment, and developed clinical skills to support the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety to help deliver optimal patient care.

Job Description:

These Principal Accountabilities, Requirements and Qualifications are not exhaustive, but are merely the most descriptive of the current job. Management reserves the right to revise the job description or require that other tasks be performed when the circumstances of the job change (for example, emergencies, staff changes, workload, or technical development). JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • NURSING SERVICES Provides appropriate, direct patient care to patients.
  • Performs selected procedures, which may include: taking vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure), setting-up and disinfecting of dialysis machines, collecting specimens, admission, transfer and discharge procedures.
  • Provides basic patient care relating to nutrition, elimination, hygiene and mobility.
  • Ensures that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.
  • Explains and educates the patient on process of examinations, tests and medical procedures they are performing in a clear and professional manner to alleviate fear and anxiety.
  • Mentors and fosters a constructive environment that helps students and new NAs build confidence in their skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • CLERICAL May perform clerical tasks such as retrieving, entering and revising patient electronic health records.
  • Prepares and completes accurate documentation related to patient, including all treatment performed, in medical and departmental records as required.
  • SAFETY Maintains a clean, neat, and safe working environment, including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after each procedure.
  • Inspects and calibrates equipment accordingly for proper operation and records the quality control (QC) results, reporting any malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • COMPLIANCE Maintains strictest confidence of all patient protected health information (PHI) and protects all PHI from accidental, intentional, or inappropriate disclosure.
  • Performs quality care in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures, as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver the highest level of patient privacy and care.
  • Completes mandated continuing education requirements to meet facility and regulatory agencies accreditation and licensure requirements.

EDUCATION: HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE: BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Proficiency in fundamental patient-care techniques, standard clinical procedures, and routine medical equipment use. Knowledge of appropriate emergency care for role (i.e. chest compressions, dialing 911)

Ability to follow instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain patient care information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people. Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadline. General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).

DEPARTMENT REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

Departments delivering hemodialysis: Demonstrated knowledge of dialysis water quality per AAMI (American Academy of Medical Instrumentation) Standards

Departments delivering hemodialysis: Capable of providing necessary immediate interventions managing dialysis complications, as allowed by scope of practice.

Pay Range is $25.08 to $31.35 / hour

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health's comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
