Job Title: Test Engineer
Job Description
This Test Engineer role serves as the onsite engineering representative during qualification testing activities for environmental control and electromechanical systems. You will oversee and support environmental and qualification testing of Environmental Control Systems (ECS), vapor-cycle systems, fan assemblies, motors, controllers, heat exchangers, compressors, and associated hardware, ensuring strict compliance with approved procedures, requirements, and configuration controls. The position requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot issues while professionally representing the organization at a customer test facility and collaborating closely with engineering and program teams.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the onsite engineering representative during qualification testing activities at the customer test facility.
- Support and oversee environmental and qualification testing of Environmental Control Systems (ECS), vapor-cycle systems, fan assemblies, motors, controllers, heat exchangers, compressors, and associated hardware.
- Learn and understand assigned products and systems in sufficient detail to effectively support testing and resolve issues.
- Review engineering drawings, Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs), Qualification Test Procedures (QTPs), qualification plans, requirements documentation, and configuration records to ensure test readiness and compliance.
- Participate in Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs) and contribute to discussions on test scope, configuration, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Verify test article configurations prior to testing, including hardware, software, instrumentation, and setup details.
- Witness all qualification testing to ensure adherence to approved procedures and configuration controls.
- Monitor instrumentation, hardware configurations, operating conditions, and data acquisition systems during tests to ensure accurate data collection.
- Identify test anomalies, failures, or procedural deviations and coordinate resolution efforts with engineering personnel and other stakeholders.
- Support troubleshooting activities during and after tests while maintaining accurate and complete documentation of findings and corrective actions.
- Verify serial numbers, software revisions, instrumentation setups, and hardware changes throughout the qualification program to maintain configuration control.
- Contribute to test report generation and final qualification documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness of technical content.
- Serve as the primary liaison between onsite personnel, internal engineering teams, and program management to ensure smooth communication and alignment.
- Use test and measurement equipment, such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, power analyzers, tachometers, and data acquisition systems, to support testing and data collection.
- Apply knowledge of aerospace and defense qualification standards, such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, DO-160, or similar, to ensure tests meet applicable requirements.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience in an engineering or engineering test environment.
- Experience supporting engineering development or qualification testing.
- Experience with aerospace or defense hardware.
- Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems such as motors, fans, compressors, refrigeration systems, or environmental control systems.
- Experience using instrumentation including thermocouples, pressure transducers, flow meters, power analyzers, tachometers, or data acquisition systems.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, DO-160, or similar qualification standards.
- Familiarity with configuration management and engineering change processes.
- Experience preparing technical reports, discrepancy reports, or engineering documentation.
- Experience with test engineering, validation, and test equipment in electrical, mechanical, or electronics contexts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues during testing and coordinate solutions with engineering teams.
- Ability to work independently while professionally representing the organization at a customer test facility.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Brentwood, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
