Our client, a pioneering energy company developing advanced technologies in the nuclear and clean energy space, is seeking a Senior Safety Verification and Validation Engineer. This role supports the verification and validation of software and evaluation models used for Licensing Basis Events (LBEs), Design Basis Accidents (DBAs), and nuclear safety analysis.
Location: Bellevue, WA – Remote
Duration: 12+ months
Compensation: $65.00 - $95.00 per hour.
Additional Compensation: This position is not eligible for bonus or incentive compensation.

Summary:
• Perform verification and validation of safety analysis software and evaluation models
• Develop benchmark models and assessment bases for nuclear safety analysis
• Support reactor transient analysis and system code development
• Contribute to scaling analysis, code assessment, and validation activities
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across design and safety functions
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform safety verification and validation activities aligned with NRC RG 1.203
• Develop assessment bases, identify applicable tests, and evaluate model uncertainties
• Design and execute verification and validation test programs including SETs and IETs
• Support scaling analysis and code applicability determinations
• Develop and maintain system transient analysis codes
• Perform reactor transient analyses and benchmarking activities
• Collaborate with engineering teams to define system and reactor requirements
• Conduct engineering reviews of analyses, models, and design documentation
Qualifications:
• Extensive experience in nuclear safety software verification and validation and system transient analysis
• Familiarity with EMDAP and NRC Regulatory Guide 1.203
• Strong understanding of thermal-hydraulics, reactor dynamics, and transient phenomena
• Experience with safety analysis tools such as RELAP5-3D, TRACE, MELCOR, SAS4A/SASSYS-1, SAM, or similar
• Knowledge of nuclear regulatory requirements and risk-informed performance-based frameworks
• Experience working under NQA-1 quality assurance programs
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and modeling skills
• Experience collaborating in multidisciplinary engineering teams
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience
Nice to Have:
• Experience with sodium fast reactor (SFR) safety methods
• Experience with scaling methodologies and advanced safety analysis techniques
• Programming experience in Fortran, C++, or Python
• Experience with non-light water reactor technologies
