Job Summary
The Audio Visual Technical Manager is responsible for leading the technical execution and delivery of multiple large-scale commercial audiovisual projects. This role ensures the accuracy and quality of system design, programming, DSP configuration, documentation, and commissioning while overseeing field team performance and technical staff development. The position blends hands-on technical leadership with team mentorship, project coordination, and quality assurance to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, profitably, and to high industry standards. The Audio Visual Technical Manager partners closely with project managers, engineers, programmers, and clients to maintain consistency, technical excellence, and customer satisfaction across all projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead the technical execution of multiple AV projects, ensuring accuracy in design, programming, DSP configuration, and commissioning.
- Review and validate engineering deliverables, including signal flows, elevations, rack layouts, and network topology.
- Mentor and manage technical teams, including field engineers, programmers, and project engineers.
- Collaborate with project managers on staffing, scheduling, and resource planning to support project timelines and profitability.
- Oversee AV system programming and integration, including control systems and audio DSP platforms.
- Perform and support complex onsite commissioning, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
- Ensure consistency and quality across all technical outputs and project deliverables.
- Identify design gaps, incorrect materials, and scope discrepancies, and support resolution through RFIs and change orders.
- Coordinate with client IT teams on networking requirements, including VLANs and multicast configurations.
- Manage multiple project workloads simultaneously while maintaining delivery timelines and technical standards.
- Maintain clear communication with clients, general contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution.
- Enforce safety standards and best practices across all job sites.
- Support documentation processes, including as-built drawings, programming files, and system manuals.
- Contribute to workforce development by training and mentoring technical staff.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher preferred.
- 10 years of commercial AV integration experience, including hands-on field experience in commissioning, DSP, control systems, and networking.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership or managerial experience overseeing technical teams.
- Expert-level proficiency in AV system design documentation, including signal flow diagrams, elevations, rack layouts, and construction-ready drawings.
- Strong experience with audio DSP configuration and control system programming.
- Hands-on experience commissioning complex AV systems in commercial environments.
- Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, including VLANs, multicast traffic, and coordination with IT teams.
- Proven ability to review engineering deliverables and enforce technical quality standards.
- Experience supporting project managers with RFIs, change orders, and scope validation.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize workloads, and align resources effectively.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and AV documentation workflows.
- Strong communication skills with both clients and general contractors.
- Experience in large-scale commercial AV environments required.
- Willingness to travel locally between project sites as needed.
- Ability to stand and/or walk job sites as required.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or higher preferred.
Work Experience
- 10 years of commercial AV integration experience required.
- 5 years of experience leading or managing technical teams in AV or low voltage environments required.
- Proven experience delivering large-scale commercial AV projects.

- Work environment: Fully onsite
- Project coverage: Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego areas as needed
- Typical schedule: 7:00 AM start time
- Work hours: 4050 hours per week based on business needs
- Project environment: Commercial AV projects including corporate, retail, education, industrial, and healthcare settings
