Key technical requirements to be considered for an interview.
(1) Manual GTAW(TIG) certified to AWS D17.1 Groups IIb, IIIB, VII, 1g position(or equivalent so 1-6G is acceptable. 1G is Client’s required certification.
(2) Experience with orbital GTAW equipment(Orbitalum, AMI, or equivalent): setup, programming, and running.
(3) Experience welding exotic aerospace alloys: Haynes 188, Hatelloy X (HAST-X), Iconel 718, L-605 (Cobalt).
(4) Experience with purge systems, backing gas control, post-weld inspection methods, and WPS/WPQ/QTR execution.
PRESCREEN QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS MUST BE ON RESUME AT TIME OF SUBMITTAL
Questions:
1. Are you AWS D17.1 certified? If yes, which groups and positions?
2. How may years of hands-on welding experience do you have(total and in aerospace/exotic alloys specific)?
3. Have you programmed/ran Orbitalum or AMI orbital GTAW systems? (Yes/No)
4. Can you read and work from WPS and WPQR documents? (Yes/No)
5. Are you able to pass a company-administered weld performance qualification (WPS/QTR) within a two- week period?
Certified Welder
Following established procedures, responsibilities may include some or all the following:
• Properly set up and operate manual and automatic welding systems per work instructions and good welding practices.
• Positions and adjusts fixtures, attachments, or workpiece on machine, using visual acuity, hand tools and measuring devices.
• Adjust, within procedural limits, to fine-tune the process to achieve conformance standards.
• Read and understand product and process drawings, procedures, weld symbols, and quality requirements.
• Performs proper pre-weld cleaning and handling of parts.
• Inspects hardware to ensure specifications are met, by visual inspection and measuring devices.
• Maintain a high level of performance while following appropriate procedures and observing all pertinent safety rules and requirements.
• Maintain work area and equipment in an organized, clean, and FOD-free manner.
• Obtain and maintain all required qualifications and certifications in all appropriate metals.
• Ability to perform set-up and troubleshooting of weld equipment.
• Understand general and weld specific safety issues.
• Provide guidance to less experienced welders as necessary.
• Assist with skill development, safety, and other training of welders.
• Work with Engineering as needed to develop weld processes and resolve weld issues.
• Troubleshoot all weld equipment working in a team environment to maintain operational needs.
Qualifications:
• HS diploma or equivalent.
• At least 8+ years of welding or related experience or demonstrated ability to perform the described
responsibilities.
• Able to become certified to AWS D17.1.2001.
• Able to read and understand product and process drawings, procedures, weld symbols and quality requirements.
• Must demonstrate manual dexterity.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
• Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics.
• Must demonstrate effective English verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player
