Job Description
MUSC Corrections ICCE is seeking a PRN Dentist to provide on-site dental services at the Horry County Detention Center. This position delivers essential dental care to the detainee population within a secure correctional environment, focusing on evaluation, treatment, pain management, and urgent dental needs.
The PRN Dentist works collaboratively with correctional medical staff, nursing, custody personnel, and administrative leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and patient-centered care.
Primary Responsibilities
Clinical Dental Care
Conduct dental examinations and diagnoses for incarcerated patients.
Provide routine and urgent dental treatment, including extractions, restorative care, infection management, and pain control.
Prescribe medications as clinically appropriate and in accordance with MUSC and detention center policies.
Triage dental complaints and determine need for referral or follow-up care.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record.
Correctional Environment
Deliver care in compliance with detention center security procedures and operational requirements.
Coordinate with custody staff to ensure safe patient movement and supervision.
Adhere to all infection control, safety, and risk management standards.
Minimum Qualifications
DMD or DDS degree from an accredited dental school.
Eligible for licensure in the State of South Carolina.
DEA registration or eligibility to obtain.
Ability to work effectively in a correctional setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in correctional, public health, or community dental settings.
Strong clinical judgment, flexibility, and professionalism.
