Our client is a nationwide real estate and property management platform with a diversified portfolio that includes affordable housing, multifamily, and select commercial assets. With a large, geographically distributed portfolio, the organization is focused on strengthening its operating platform, scaling systems and processes, and maintaining high standards of financial accuracy and compliance as it continues to grow.
The Controller, Property Accounting leads all property accounting operations across the managed portfolio. Reporting to the EVP of Property Management, this role oversees a sizable accounting organization and serves as a key operational partner to Property Management, Compliance, Asset Management, and third-party clients. The Controller ensures consistent, timely, and compliant financial reporting while driving process improvements, team development, and scalable accounting practices.
Responsibilities :
- Lead all property accounting operations, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance across a multi-property portfolio
- Directly manage Regional Accounting Managers and provide leadership to staff accountants and accounts payable teams
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes for all managed properties
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, HUD, lender, and other applicable regulatory requirements
- Serve as a primary accounting partner to Property Management, Compliance, Asset Management, and third-party clients, addressing questions and promoting best practices
- Partner closely with Corporate Accounting leadership to align policies, procedures, and reporting standards
- Lead property-level audits and coordinate timely, accurate responses to auditor and lender requests
- Monitor accounts payable, receivable, reimbursements, and cash controls to safeguard assets and maintain financial discipline
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis efforts by providing clear insights into property performance
- Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, technology enhancements including Yardi, and scalable systems design
- Develop, mentor, and retain accounting talent while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and ownership
Qualifications :
Compensation : Targeting a base salary of ~$160-200k
