This Landfill Technician position earns competitive pay of $15.05/hr. As a Landfill Technician, you spend your day coordinating with the compactor operator to direct incoming loads, ensuring proper disposal of all waste, identifying violations, preparing reports and letters, providing informative and effective customer service, directing traffic, as needed, and other duties as required. Your job is essential to the city, and you conduct field inspections at the landfill and document evidence to ensure compliance with applicable plans and regulations. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city.

When you are not out in the city, you generally are back at the office providing a variety of routine and complex clerical work. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with skills in operating construction equipment and performing industrial maintenance, and you find genuine enjoyment in what you do!

Qualifications for a Landfill Technician:

• Education Required: High School Diploma, GED or equivalency
• Education Preference: Specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Community college, vocational, business, technical, or correspondence schools are likely sources.
• Educational Substitute: Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Work Experience: One (1) year of experience in environmental science or a closely related field and experience in municipal functions.
• Experience Preferred: Two (2) years of experience in related field.
• Must have waste Screening Certification; First Aid/CPR Certification; Unauthorized Waste, Acceptance Certification; NIMS Certification or be able to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
• Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
• English/Spanish proficiency required.
