Position Overview

The Chemical Engineer plays a key role in supporting process design, system performance evaluation, and project development for the company’s industrial and power generation facilities. You’ll apply principles of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat and mass transfer to improve plant efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and assist in the planning and execution of maintenance and capital projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support process design and optimization of power and industrial systems, including thermal cycles, fuel handling, water treatment, and chemical feed systems.
  • Conduct engineering analyses and calculations related to fluid flow, combustion, heat exchange, emissions control, and chemical process performance.
  • Develop technical specifications, cost estimates, and project scopes for equipment installations and system modifications.
  • Collect and analyze process and performance data to identify operational inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare technical reports, process flow diagrams, and heat and material balances to support engineering and operations decisions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, drafting, and operations teams on field investigations, troubleshooting, and system upgrades.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and equipment specifications, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Participate in process hazard reviews, environmental audits, and safety studies in accordance with applicable codes and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide project management support, including schedule coordination, cost control, and documentation.
  • For senior engineers: Lead process improvement projects, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate with plant leadership on reliability and sustainability initiatives.

Requirements

Qualifications – Senior Chemical Engineer

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering (Master’s preferred) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in Chemical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in process design, plant operations, or energy systems.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards (ASME, API, ASTM, NFPA, EPA) and environmental permitting requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in process optimization, performance testing, and project execution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with power generation, petrochemical, or utility-scale process systems.
  • Proficiency in Aspen Plus, HYSYS, ChemCAD, or other process simulation tools.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Montana (or ability to obtain within 12 months).

Benefits

Why Join Us

  • Be part of an innovative engineering team improving the efficiency, sustainability, and reliability of industrial energy systems.
  • Work on complex, high-impact projects while developing expertise across chemical and mechanical disciplines.
  • Enjoy a collaborative environment with professional mentorship, advancement opportunities, and comprehensive benefits.
