You are comfortable working independently and collaboratively, applying disciplined troubleshooting methodologies, and contributing to continuous improvements across large-scale federal network environments.

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support a Federal Government client in Huntsville, AL. In this role, you will provide advanced technical engineering support for a highly complex, multi-enclave enterprise network environment spanning multiple classification levels. You will be responsible for designing, engineering, and supporting secure, high-performance network solutions across the full IT lifecycle.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Network Engineering & Design: Design and engineer new network solutions for a multi-enclave enterprise environment, supporting diverse networking technologies and security requirements.
  • Requirements & Documentation: Gather user network requirements using multiple methodologies and produce technical documentation, including system requirements documents, system security requirements documents, and system test plans.
  • Network Operations & Support: Install, maintain, and evaluate network and communications systems, providing Tier 3 engineering support to resolve complex issues not resolved by lower support tiers.
  • Troubleshooting & Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex LAN and WAN issues involving routing protocols, network topologies, and hardware platforms.
  • Architecture & Planning: Conduct network architecture design, feasibility analyses, and cost studies to support informed technical and business decisions.
  • Process Improvement: Apply technical and operational experience to improve processes and procedures for deploying, maintaining, and sustaining network infrastructure.
  • Collaboration: Work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams to enhance network designs and improve overall network services.

By stepping into this role, you will directly support critical federal missions by ensuring secure, resilient, and high-performing network infrastructure in a sensitive national security environment.

The Skills We're Looking For:

  • Core Technical Expertise:
    • Extensive experience designing, developing, and implementing enterprise network solutions
    • In-depth knowledge of Cisco routing platforms, including Aggregation Services Routers (ASRs)
    • Strong expertise in routing protocols and technologies such as BGP, EIGRP, DMVPN, and GRE
    • Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 technologies including STP, MST, and VLANs
    • Experience with LAN/WAN troubleshooting, traffic engineering, and performance optimization
    • Experience providing Tier 3 and senior-level engineering support
    • Hands-on experience with TACLANE systems
  • Engineering & Analysis:
    • Network architecture design, feasibility analysis, and cost estimation
    • Ability to apply disciplined troubleshooting methodologies to ensure mission success
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Strong ability to document technical requirements and communicate with stakeholders across teams
    • Experience collaborating within large, multi-team federal environments

Requirements:

  • Active Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI
    • CI polygraph administered by the customer once onsite
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience designing, developing, and implementing network solutions
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting complex LAN issues and resolving WAN problems
  • Experience supporting cost-effective, high-performance IP and LAN/WAN solutions

Preferred Additional Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst Center (DNAC)
  • CCNA or higher Cisco certification
  • Experience with SD-WAN implementation and operations
  • Experience supporting network engineering efforts within the federal intelligence community
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work with minimal supervision

The Expectations of the Job:

Day One:

  • Complete onboarding and orientation to Aretec's culture, security policies, and federal mission environment
  • Gain familiarity with the client's network architecture, enclaves, and operational procedures

Day Thirty:

  • Begin actively supporting network operations and troubleshooting efforts

Day Sixty:

  • Take ownership of complex network engineering tasks and Tier 3 issue resolution
  • Participate in network design, architecture discussions, and process improvement initiatives
