About the Role

At Asplundh Electrical Testing, safety is the foundation of everything we do. The Senior Relay Technician ensures safe and reliable operation of high voltage substations through advanced relay testing, commissioning, and maintenance. This role leads crews, supports major field operations, and upholds Asplundh’s reputation for safety, integrity, and service.

We are growing and immediately hiring Senior Relay Technicians who bring advanced expertise in relay testing, system protection, and substation commissioning. If you enjoy taking on complex technical challenges, leading work execution, and contributing to a strong culture of safety and quality, we encourage you to apply.

As a NETA‑accredited independent electrical testing and engineering organization, Asplundh Electrical Testing is proud to set the benchmark for technical excellence and unwavering safety across the utility, renewable energy, data center, and industrial sectors.

Candidates responding to this posting must independently possess the eligibility to work in the United States, for any employer, at the date of hire. This position is ineligible for employment Visa sponsorship.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead safety tailboards and enforce Asplundh’s “Safety First, Always” culture.
  • Execute protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.
  • Validate protection schemes and verify control circuits for breakers, transformers, feeders, and capacitor banks.
  • Perform system event analysis and support outage planning and energization sequences.
  • Guide and oversee on site electrical crews; coordinate activities with project managers and customer teams.
  • Maintain accurate records, test results, and field documentation.
  • Support project estimating, job walks, and customer communication.
  • Train and mentor developing technicians.

Work will be performed at customer sites throughout the assigned region. Ability to travel regularly within the region is required, and the capability to travel outside the region for extended assignments is ideal. Company vehicle provided for work‑related travel within the assigned region.

What You Bring

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience with protective relaying in substations.
  • Expertise in microprocessor relay testing platforms.
  • Strong understanding of high voltage safety standards and energized work practices.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to work outdoors, travel, and lift 70 lbs.
Education & Credentials
  • NETA Level III or IV Certification is preferred for Senior roles; however, we welcome candidates at other NETA levels for opportunities across the organization.
  • Experience with circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, RTUs, and communications.
  • Technical degree or military electrical training.
  • OSHA 10/30 Certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history
