Selection Procedure::

A committee will evaluate applications taking into account breadth and depth of relevant education, training, experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. Interviews may include a writing sample, presentation, teaching demonstration, and/or performance test. The committee will recommend finalists to the President/CEO and/or Vice President of Instruction or Student Services for a second interview. The number of vacancies is dependent on student enrollment, College resources and needs, and Board of Trustees’ approval. The starting date will be determined following Board approval and receipt of live scan clearance.

Position Overview:

The Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Library Department provides instruction, research support, and access to information resources in support of student learning and academic programs. The Department serves the campus community through ongoing support of teaching, learning, and information access, with a commitment to inclusivity and serving Mt. SAC’s diverse student population.

This position supports student learning and equitable access with a focus on Career Education (CE) through information literacy instruction, collaborative teaching, and strategic collection development. The librarian will work closely with faculty to teach information literacy instruction, integrate library resources into curriculum, and strengthen critical thinking skills across multiple instructional formats, while promoting equitable access through OER/ZTC and emerging technology, including generative AI. The role also includes data-informed assessment and reporting, advocacy for library needs, and active participation in library operations and shared governance to advance student success, workforce readiness, and instructional excellence.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, deliver and assess information literacy instruction (e.g. research support, workshops, tours, and credit courses) in a variety of formats including asynchronous online (e.g. Canvas), synchronous online (e.g. Zoom), and in-person.
  2. Provide one-on-one and classroom information literacy instruction that supports research skill development, and critical thinking for a diverse student population.
  3. Collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources into coursework to strengthen students’ critical thinking and information literacy
  4. Incorporate emerging technologies, including generative AI, into library instruction and services to support information literacy and critical thinking
  5. Identify, evaluate, and select library resources in collaboration with faculty to support program needs, student success, and workforce preparation.
  6. Collaborate with faculty and library partners to identify, develop, and promote Open Educational Resources (OER) and Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) materials
  7. Use data and collection development tools to guide purchasing, deselection, renewals and cancellations.
  8. Collaborate in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes and unit objectives by focusing on data analysis and using results to formulate strategies for improved outcomes
  9. Prepare written, analytical, outcomes-based reports to inform planning and decision-making
  10. Promote library services and resources to faculty, students, and the campus community
  11. Advocate, represent, and support library needs of students and faculty across services, accreditation and campus initiatives (e.g. Strong Workforce, Guided Pathways, Perkins)
  12. Collaborate with librarians in a team-oriented environment to develop and evaluate library policies, procedures, and workflows.
  13. Teach assigned courses in accordance with course outline of record.
  14. Instruct and support students with diverse backgrounds utilizing culturally relevant pedagogy, careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methods including for online instruction, informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions, student learning outcomes, and support a philosophy of instruction focusing on critical thinking and analysis.
  15. Maintain scheduled office and campus hours and participate in department/division meetings and committees.
  16. Perform related duties as assigned, including timely completion of required operational, administrative, and compliance-related responsibilities, in accordance with and in adherence to college, division, and departmental policies and procedures.
  17. Late afternoon and/or evening assignments or weekends may be required as part of the regular contract.
  18. Effective oral and written communication with students.
  19. Commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
  20. In close cooperation with other faculty participate in the design, development, evaluation, and revision of curriculum, assess and enter Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Degree and Certificate Outcomes (DCOs).
  21. Use appropriate technologies to support teaching and administrative responsibilities in accordance with the College’s policies and requirements.
  22. Participate in the dual enrollment program by volunteering to teach dual enrollment courses in collaboration with the Dual Enrollment Program and with partner high schools and districts.
  23. Participate in curriculum development, assess and enter Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Deree and Certificate Outcomes (DCOs).
  24. Serve on College Committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program(s).
  25. Participate in appropriate professional development activities on behalf of the instructional program.
  26. On-campus course assignments will be required.

Required Qualifications:

A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:

  1. Master’s degree in library science or library and information science; OR
  2. The equivalent (must request an equivalency review in the application), OR
  3. California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code § 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.);
AND

B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.

Preferred Quals Summary:

  1. Ability to communicate curriculum meaningfully for students with diverse backgrounds.
  2. Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited library or information science program.
  3. Experience identifying and selecting materials and vendors for specific populations with distinct needs in Career Education fields.
  4. Demonstrated ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships across departments and teams working on curriculum, planning, and budgeting.
  5. Knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogical techniques for engaging historical underrepresented and underserved students.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

The incumbent may periodically be required to travel to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license.

Equivalencies:

Candidates not holding the stated required qualifications who are requesting consideration based on an equivalency will be asked to complete the equivalency-related questions included in the application as well as provide transcripts from the appropriate college/university.

Conditions of Employment:

The person holding this position is required to be present on Mt. San Antonio College’s campus to perform all essential duties and responsibilities.

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month contract position that begins in the 2026-27 academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and directly related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9. The direct relationship of experience will be determined by the District. Per Appendix A.4.i of the faculty collective bargaining agreement, the District shall, at the time of initial salary schedule placement, determine whether the newly employed professor shall be placed on the Academic or Vocational salary track.

Official offers of employment are made by Mt. San Antonio College Human Resources and are made contingent upon Board approval. It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been live scanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for live scan services shall be borne by the candidate.
