Job description

Board Certified Perfusionist - Cardiovascular Services | Minneapolis, MN

Independent Contractor | $100 - $121/hour | Full-Time

Why Perfusionists Choose CLFC

CLFC Healthcare & Communications is not just another staffing agency. We are a specialized federal healthcare partner that understands the critical nature of your work in the operating room. We offer industry-leading compensation that reflects the expertise and responsibility perfusionists carry every day, a dedicated clinical support team that handles credentialing, compliance, and logistics so you can focus entirely on patient care, and long-term, stable assignments at premier VA medical centers. Your skills save lives. We make sure you are compensated and supported accordingly.

What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out

  • Premium Compensation: $100 - $121/hour based on your certification level, specialization, and experience, with consistent full-time hours
  • Prestigious Assignment: Serve veterans at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, one of the nation's leading VA cardiovascular surgery programs
  • Clinical Autonomy: Work in a collaborative surgical environment where your expertise in extracorporeal circulation is valued and respected by the surgical team
  • Career Stability: Federal contract assignment with long-term engagement potential, not short-term travel rotations
  • Nationwide Network: Access to perfusion assignments across multiple VA medical centers and federal facilities through CLFC's growing cardiovascular services division
  • Full Administrative Support: We handle credentialing, privileging, malpractice coverage coordination, and all compliance requirements so you walk in ready to work

The Role

CLFC Healthcare & Communications is seeking two Board Certified Perfusionists to provide cardiovascular perfusion services at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. You will operate heart-lung machines and related equipment during open-heart surgery, organ transplants, and other complex cardiovascular procedures, ensuring safe and effective extracorporeal circulation for veteran patients.

What You Will Do

  • Cardiopulmonary Bypass: Set up, operate, and monitor heart-lung machines during open-heart surgical procedures, maintaining optimal patient hemodynamics throughout
  • Autotransfusion Services: Perform intraoperative blood salvage and autotransfusion to minimize allogeneic blood product usage
  • Myocardial Protection: Administer cardioplegia solutions and monitor myocardial preservation techniques per surgeon preference and institutional protocols
  • Patient Monitoring: Continuously assess blood gas values, anticoagulation status, hemodynamic parameters, and perfusion adequacy throughout each procedure
  • Equipment Management: Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot all perfusion equipment including oxygenators, pumps, heat exchangers, and monitoring devices
  • Emergency Response: Provide ECMO and emergency perfusion support as required by the cardiovascular surgery service
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed perfusion records compliant with VA documentation standards and ABCP requirements
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, and OR nursing staff to deliver coordinated, high-quality patient care

What You Bring

Required:

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited perfusion education program
  • CCP (Certified Clinical Perfusionist) certification through ABCP
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical perfusion experience
  • Proficiency in adult cardiopulmonary bypass, myocardial protection, and autotransfusion
  • Eligible for VA credentialing and privileging

Preferred:

  • Dual certified: CCP and CAT (Certified Autotransfusionist) through ABCP
  • Experience in pediatric perfusion or ECMO
  • Prior VA or federal healthcare facility experience
  • Experience with ventricular assist device (VAD) management

Compensation Details

  • Pay Rate: $100 - $121/hour (based on certification, specialization, and experience)
  • Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday with on-call availability as needed
  • Location: Minneapolis VA Health Care System, Minneapolis, MN (on-site)
  • Duration: Long-term federal contract assignment
