Manufacturing Engineer

Location: High Point, NC (or surrounding area)
Compensation: $75-85K

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support production operations and ensure that product designs can be manufactured efficiently, reliably, and at scale. This role serves as a critical bridge between Design Engineering and Operations, focusing on process capability, tooling development, and manufacturing optimization.

While Design Engineering focuses on translating customer requirements into product designs, the Manufacturing Engineer focuses on how those designs are built in production. This role ensures manufacturability, improves production processes, and supports the transition from prototype to full-scale manufacturing.

The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with Engineering, Quality, Scheduling, and Operations teams to develop manufacturing processes, implement improvements, and support production needs.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Development

  • Develop, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, repeatable production.
  • Support manufacturing orders and collaborate with operations teams to meet production schedules.
  • Lead process improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput.

Engineering & Production Support

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Scheduling, and Operations teams.
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) and prototype-to-production transitions.
  • Provide technical input for PFMEA development and control plans.

  • Support root cause investigations and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities.

Documentation & Configuration Management

  • Create and maintain manufacturing bills of materials (mBOMs) and process routings.
  • Draft and manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) related to manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and maintain work instructions and production documentation.
  • Ensure documentation clearly supports manufacturability and production clarity.

Tooling & Fixture Development

  • Design and develop production fixtures and tooling to support manufacturing processes.
  • Identify tooling requirements and ensure they are documented and available for production.
  • Maintain tooling, fixture, and equipment documentation repositories.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and execute continuous improvement initiatives using Lean and Six Sigma principles.
  • Support kaizen initiatives and operational efficiency improvements.

  • Participate in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews with Design Engineering to improve product manufacturability early in the design process.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering.

  • Minimum 10 years of manufacturing engineering or related experience.
  • Experience with CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.
  • Experience working with MRP/ERP systems.

  • Knowledge of IPC-610 and IPC-620 standards.

  • Experience applying Lean manufacturing principles.

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Must reside in the High Point, NC area or be willing to relocate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD Inventor.

  • Experience developing and implementing manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with machining and mechanical assembly processes and equipment.
  • Experience with wire harness assembly processes and equipment.

  • Experience with PCB assembly and integration processes.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher.

  • Experience with PFMEA development and control plans.

  • Experience leading Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews.

Desired Soft Skills
  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal direction.

  • Hands-on problem solver comfortable wearing multiple hats.

  • Strong collaborator who works effectively across cross-functional teams.

  • Change agent who can drive process adoption and continuous improvement.
