JOB GOAL

Responsible for developing, planning, organizing, and implementing curriculum and teacher support in alignment with the Florida State Standards, while ensuring that procedures are followed to maintain safety and security and to meet federal, state, and local regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.

Deliver Standards-Based Music Instruction:Provide engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction to elementary and middle school students in alignment with the Florida state standards for music education. Foster students' musical growth through lessons in vocal technique, rhythm, melody, music theory, appreciation, and performance skills. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to meet diverse learning needs and to build foundational and advanced music competencies across grade levels.

Plan and Present Student Performances:Develop and direct age-appropriate music programs that showcase student learning and progress. For elementary students, plan and lead choral concerts that may include performances on classroom instruments. For middle school students, create and produce a comprehensive musical performance or show, giving students the opportunity to engage in a full-scale production that integrates vocal, instrumental, and theatrical elements where appropriate. Responsibilities include scheduling performance dates, securing and booking venues (on- or off-campus), coordinating rehearsals, and managing logistics in collaboration with school staff to ensure high-quality, well-organized events for families and the school community.

  1. Monitor, assist, supervise, and support students in the classroom and on campus throughout the school day, before school, and after school as directed.
  2. Maintain a student-centered learning environment that is safe, organized, equitable, flexible, inclusive, and collaborative and accommodates the differing needs of students.
  3. Foster a culture of high expectations for all students by promoting the importance of education and each student's capacity for academic achievement.
  4. Collaborate with school and District staff to design, prepare, and implement varied fine arts educational materials, lesson plans, media, and technology that enable all students to participate in high-quality communication interactions and achieve their educational goals in alignment with state-adopted standards that take into consideration varying aspects of rigor and complexity.
  5. Utilize a comprehensive knowledge of the subject taught to deliver engaging and challenging lessons and to enrich students' understanding through content area literacy strategies, verbalization of thought, and application of the subject matter.
  6. Differentiate instruction based on an assessment of student learning needs and recognition of individual differences in students by identifying gaps in students' subject matter knowledge and applying varied instructional strategies and resources to provide comprehensible instruction and teach for student understanding.
  7. Implement student 504s and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as necessary under the guidance of the applicable school and District staff; ensure all students' needs are being met appropriately.
  8. Design, prepare, and implement curriculum for English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in collaboration with District staff.
  9. Demonstrate a breadth of subject matter knowledge using the current references, materials, and resources of the subject field to provide follow-up, in-service, and review of fine arts material in a comprehensible manner that enables students to approach and interrelate topics from a variety of perspectives, interests, and points of view.
  10. Monitor student behavior using positive behavior supports, maintain discipline in accordance with required disciplinary policies and procedures, and enforce rules, regulations, the student code of conduct, and District policies to foster safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and other members of the school community.
  11. Assign, grade, and evaluate student work, administer appropriate assessments, evaluate student comprehension and progress on a regular basis, and provide appropriate feedback to students, staff, and parents/guardians as an ongoing evaluation process.
  12. Design and utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments that match learning objectives and lead to mastery while ensuring that all assessments align with established standards and requirements.
  13. Record, prepare, and maintain progress reports, report cards, data regarding behavior and health status, and other required reports; ensure confidentiality is maintained, as required by federal, state, and District policies.
  14. Maintain open lines of communication with students and parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding student progress and information and attend parent/guardian and teacher conferences as required to support student learning and continuous improvement.
  15. Refer students to the appropriate personnel when evaluation or follow-up services as required; provide information to students and parents/guardians as requested.
  16. Administer District, local, state, and federal testing for students and ensure all rules and regulations are upheld and that testing conditions are modified as appropriate to accommodate learning needs; notify appropriate personnel when this does not occur.
  17. Participate in problem solving meetings and utilize a variety of data to evaluate learning outcomes, adjust planning, and continuously improve the effectiveness of lessons and the academic program based on students' needs.
  18. Follow District policies and procedures concerning education, health, safety, equipment, personal information, and the wellbeing of students.
  19. Maintain compliance with School Board policy at all times.
  20. Maintain required certifications, participate in professional development workshops and in-service training sessions as required, attend required meetings, and keep abreast of current educational trends, laws, regulations, and statutes.
  21. Maintain the requirements of professional responsibility and ethical conduct by fulfilling expected obligations to students, the public, and the education profession while adhering to all rules and requirements.
  22. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
  23. Provide support in developing/maintaining students' daily living needs and medical needs.
  24. Assist with the coordination and promotion of the District fine arts programs, including facilitating and scheduling District competitions, fine arts festivals, conferences, and staff development opportunities for teachers.
  25. Assist teachers in providing, selecting, and enhancing school fine arts productions and programs that address the interests and needs of students by utilizing District fine arts curriculums and resources.
  26. Develop a cultural program and fine arts volunteer program directed to students by utilizing the teachers of the performing arts, volunteers, professional artists, and community cultural resources.
  27. Monitor and evaluate the fine arts programs and provide information to the District and school administration on the effectiveness of programs.
  28. Coordinate the development of contracts for outside programs and services.
  29. Coordinate logistics for student events including transportation, schedules, distribution of materials, and financial arrangements.
  30. Provide a systematic exchange of fine arts education information and resources that reach all related professionals in the schools and the community to enhance the educational program.
  31. Enlist the support of the professional arts community in developing a community cultural program by gathering input and providing feedback to the District Fine Arts Coordinator, and applicable staff.
  32. Support and implement a marketing and public relations plan for all fine arts programs, which includes highlighting the accomplishments of the students from all Pasco County Schools via the fine arts program.
  33. Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

  • Two years' experience in a music classroom environment preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive knowledge of fine arts content, curriculum, teaching methods, and related statutes, laws, and regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process

EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the field of Music, OR
  • Approval by or participation in a state-approved certification pathway program

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Educator's Certificate in Music
  • OR
  • Valid statement of eligibility

WORK DETAILS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Equipment:

  • Adaptive equipment and devices as necessary.
  • Classroom equipment, including content-specific specialized equipment.
  • General office equipment, including electronic devices, copiers, telephones, etc.

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the school's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the school.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the school's policy on evaluation of personnel.
