Position: High School Agriculture Education Teacher

Qualifications:
  1. Education Level: Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education or related field.
  2. Certification: Appropriate and current Missouri Teaching Certificate in Agriculture Education.
  3. Experience desired: Graduate degree and/or experience in agricultural education, FFA leadership, or agriculture industry experience preferred.
  4. Other Requirements:
    Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education. Must possess excellent organizational, oral, written, time management, and computer skills. In addition, a complete transcript(s) of college credit must be on file before the beginning of each school year. It is the responsibility of the teacher to maintain a valid Missouri teaching certificate in the content area per DESE requirements.
Program Description:

Willard School District is seeking a Missouri certified teacher for Agriculture Education. This teacher assignment will include a combination of, but not limited to:
  • Agricultural Science I & II
  • Leadership / Agricultural Leadership
  • Animal Science
  • Agricultural Construction
  • Landscaping and Turf Management

General Summary:

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of various teaching and assessment strategies and communicate this knowledge effectively to build relationships with teachers and parents. Deadlines dictate priorities, and distractions are unavoidable; flexibility and strong organizational skills are essential. It is equally important to be goal driven and maintain a high level of professionalism while adhering to Board policy.

The Agriculture Education teacher will implement the three-component model of agricultural education, including classroom instruction, leadership development through the FFA organization, and supervision of student Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs. The Agriculture Education teacher will implement and cultivate Real World Learning Opportunities within their courses.

Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Acts as the responsible agent for the direct instruction of students and is knowledgeable of the agricultural subjects assigned to teach.
  2. Maintains clear and up-to-date written lesson plans. Able to show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  3. Conducts assigned activities from the administration in conformity with the approved policies of the Board of Education, the regulations of DESE, and State and Federal Law.
  4. Relates plans to clearly defined objectives consistent with the established curriculum. Provides the experiences needed to extend students' thinking skills with a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs and interests of the students.
  5. Previews and has the needed materials available. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  6. Makes effective use of planning time. Observes designated working hours per the job assignment and the uniqueness of each assignment.
  7. Provides effective home-school communication.
  8. Employs a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  9. Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  10. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
  11. Takes all necessary and responsible precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Promotes an environment in which all students feel free to participate.
  12. Maintains a safe and organized agricultural laboratory, shop, and greenhouse environment. Provides instruction in proper shop safety procedures, safe equipment operation, and responsible use of agricultural tools and machinery. Ensures students follow established safety protocols and maintain compliance with district and state safety standards.
  13. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develops reasonable rules of behavior and procedures in the classroom and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  14. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
  15. Continues professional growth through participation in professional development opportunities.
  16. Participates in curriculum improvement and development, and revision of course outlines for the classes taught.
  17. Performs campus supervision as needed or directed by the supervisor.
  18. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Works collaboratively with peers and fellow agriculture instructors within the program.
  19. Participates cooperatively with the Principal in performance evaluations as stated in the district's policies and procedures.
  20. Supports and implements strategies that enhance student performance on local, state, and federal assessments.
  21. Supervises student Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs and supports student participation in agricultural leadership development activities.
  22. Serves as FFA Advisor, supporting chapter activities, leadership events, competitions, and community engagement.
  23. Performs other duties as assigned at the request of the superintendent or principal.
