ROLE of the POSITION
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applicants for a faculty position in the Department of Criminal Justice. This is a full time, tenure-track or tenured 9-month position starting in Fall, 2026. The Department of Criminal Justice is searching for an individual with an area of expertise in policing, crime analysis, or public safety (especially for large scale events). Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate students, as well as advising graduate students on thesis and dissertations. Teaching load is three courses a semester with the possibility of teaching in the summer. The successful candidate will not only possess a solid teaching and research record, but also a willingness to engage in community partnerships. The faculty in Criminal Justice play a significant role in the Tourist Safety Institute and the Center for Crime and Justice Policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Ph.D in Criminal Justice or related Social Science discipline from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. This is an open rank position but the following criteria will be used to determine the eligibility for a specific rank:
Assistant Professor (tenure track) Terminal degree, demonstrate ability to teach both in-person and online courses, provide evidence of a capacity to conduct original research. An individual may be considered who has not earned a PhD, but will have the degree before July 1, 2026.
Associate Professor (tenured) Terminal degree, a strong record of teaching courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, evidence of community involvement, and publication record that would merit tenure and rank at UNLV
Professor (tenured) Terminal degree, a strong record of teaching courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level including mentoring graduate students, evidence of partnering with community organizations and a distinguished publication record that would merit tenure and rank as a Professor at UNLV.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
Must provide evidence that they have a knowledge and ability to teach and do research in one of the three areas of expertise listed above.
A record that demonstrates an ability to obtain grants and contacts.
An understanding of inter-disciplinary teaching and research.
