Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the preconstruction and estimating team, ensuring accurate cost projections for construction projects.
- Develop detailed cost estimates, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Oversee bidding strategies and proposal development, ensuring competitive and profitable submissions.
- Review plans, specifications, contracts, and RFPs to assess project scope and risk factors.
- Lead subcontractor and supplier negotiations, ensuring optimal pricing and contract terms.
- Implement value engineering strategies to optimize project costs without sacrificing quality.
- Maintain and analyze historical cost data to improve future estimate accuracy.
- Manage multiple bids and coordinate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and contract requirements.
- Provide executive-level reporting on bidding performance, cost trends, and market conditions.
- Train, mentor, and develop estimating staff, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Support business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities.
- Oversee cost tracking and change order pricing throughout project execution.
- Perform other duties as assigned by executive leadership.
Competency & Abilities:
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing estimating teams.
- Expert-level knowledge of civil construction, infrastructure, and heavy industry cost estimation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for cost assessment and risk management.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS, HeavyBid, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, PlanSwift, or similar).
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, and manage high-volume bids.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills to secure the best pricing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with executives, clients, and project teams.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in estimating, cost analysis, or preconstruction leadership roles.
- Experience in civil construction, infrastructure, energy, or heavy industrial projects required.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and cost structures.
- Understanding of labor rates, material costs, and subcontractor pricing trends.
