Job description

Position Purpose


Delivers rigorous instruction to students in order to promote intellectual, social, and physical growth; ensures that regardless of socioeconomic factors every child is prepared for accelerated learning to compete in a global economy. Provides standards-based, data-driven, differentiated instruction that engages students. Creates a safe, supportive learning environment to maximize student learning.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Instructional Planning & Delivery
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in one or more Career and Technical Education fields in accordance with district curricula and industry standards.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and make best use of the available time for instruction
  • Delivers instruction to students in order to promote intellectual growth, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills, and technical skills within the aviation career field.
  • Instructs students in the proper use and care of professional equipment, technology, and other materials.
  • Promotes critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
  • Promotes Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-aligned instruction and certifications, specific to the Cluster Focus, and teaches knowledge and skills that prepare students for the courses and certification exam expected post-graduation.
  • Explains and discusses with students various rules and regulations at school, in college, and within the industry.
  • Promotes Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) instructions and certifications, specific to the Cluster Focus, and teaches knowledge and skills that prepare students for the certification exam.

Student Assessment
  • Uses and implements ongoing assessments of student learning, interprets higher level data (e.g. value add) to inform instruction, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by District procedures and applicable laws.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
  • Prepares students for industry certification exams within the program focus, in accordance with CTE guidelines, administers industry-based certification exams to all students, and provides remediation to those who were not successful.


Learning Environment
  • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of the profession to everyday existence, including projects, demonstrations, experiments, and hands-on activities.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to laboratory, individualized and small group instruction, and other forms of student learning.
  • Takes note of state and industry requirements for aviation maintenance and updates all stakeholders of changes.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school District policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Counsels students and their families to develop and monitor six-year plans and graduation requirements for an aviation coherent sequence of courses.

Parental Involvement
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education, and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

Professional Learning Community
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge, and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within special education, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment, maintains inventory records, and ensures equipment is in good working order.
  • Attends and participates in school events during and outside of regular school hours.
  • Attends FAA training as needed to administer curriculum.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships among local businesses, FAA staff, and institutions through which Dual Credit is offered.

Other
  • Applies for (if necessary) and maintains FAA certification of program in Coordination with CTE department.
  • Attends faculty, team, and advisory board meetings.

Safety
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing, drills and lockdowns; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  • Observes student behavior outside the classroom at designated times, between classes, and at assigned duty stations; takes necessary action when appropriate.

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies, and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and guidelines, and District policies and procedures regarding education and students.
  • Knowledge of current CTE teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiation of instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of assigned content facts, concepts, theories, and principles that are being taught, as well as industry standards that lead to licensure for careers or post-secondary professions.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of how to actively advise and effectively prepare students for participation in a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO).
  • Knowledge of equipment and software programs used within the field.
  • Skill in planning and providing professional learning; lesson planning with multiple teachers.
  • Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to provide information and assist office personnel, parents, and students related to District programs and activities.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work, and work effectively in collaborative teams.
  • Ability to effectively conference with teachers, parents, and students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain community relationships to help improve programs and secure employment for students.
  • Ability to use software to access databases, email, create spreadsheets, and do word processing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Travel Requirements
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Travels to student workplace, industry partnership locations, professional development, industry competitions, skill training, and/or possible vendor locations as needed.


Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment such as interactive teaching screens; equipment and tools generally found within an aviation hangar, aligned to General and Powerplant coursework.
  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking.
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds); occasional exerting up to 20 pounds; may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment.
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasionally up to 35 pounds; may lift and move textbooks, classroom tools, and equipment; additional requirements may apply in certain classroom settings.
  • Vision: Performs tasks requiring close vision.
  • Environment: Works in a school facility and classroom; works inside and occasionally outside; standard classroom/lab school building environment; frequent exposure to noise; frequent talking and listening; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours, including attendance at events and/or meetings with parents and staff after working hours.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; works prolonged or irregular hours.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Education:
Required
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a field related to subject being taught;
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university with a major in a field related to subject being taught.
  • Certification/License:
Required
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License.
Preferred – One of the following:
  • Valid State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) in Trades & Industrial Education with approval from Career and Technical Education (CTE);
OR
  • Eligible to earn certification within one year of the hiring date by a FWISD approved educator program;
OR
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification in the subject and level of assignment.
  • Experience:
Required
  • 2 years’ (within the last 10 years) of airplane maintenance experience or airplane maintenance teaching experience.
Preferred
  • 3 years’ (within the last 10 years) of airplane maintenance experience; experience teaching; experience working with diverse student populations;
  • Teaching experience;
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
