Job description

The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient centered 90% Staff Nurse (36 hours a week) to work in our UICC Urgent Care Clinics. Our Urgent Care Staff Nurses are responsible for caring for a wide variety of patients from newborn to geriatric. Their primary job duties include (but are not limited to) rooming, medication administration, lab collection and processing. This position is part of a dynamic and fast paced environment, rich with opportunities for learning and growth. We utilize a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that encourages team work to provide the most comprehensive care to our patients.

Duties to include:

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards

Percent of Time: 90% (36 hours per week)

Schedule: Variable hours; Monday - Friday hours between 7:00 AM - 9:30 PM, Saturday and Sunday hours between 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, rotating holiday and weekends, no on-call time, with primarily hours accomplished as 3/12 hour shifts

Location: Iowa City, IA and Coralville, IA (surrounding clinics sites based on needs/hours)

Pay Grade: 52 - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans

Salary $50,319 - $92,303 ( based on years of experience)

Education

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN), Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (within 60 days of hire)

Desired Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
  • 1 - 3 years of pediatric nursing experience.
  • 1 - 3 years acute patient care experience within Emergency Department, Urgent Care and/or Walk-In Clinic area(s).
  • Ambulatory nursing care experience, including telephone triage experience in the outpatient setting.
