Director of Kids Ministry

Job Description:

Position Overview: The Director of Kids Ministry has a growing relationship with God, and is passionate about creating an environment in which kids, families, and volunteers are invited into experiencing the presence of God in dynamic and creative ways. This person is skilled at team building and development, spiritually and pragmatically developing disciples, both kids and volunteers, in the character and mission of Christ. They understand how vibrant, Christ-centered ministry connects with believers and the spiritually curious, creating experiences accessible to all.

Our Young Generation ministry team focuses upon:

• Discipling volunteers into becoming welcoming and knowledgeable ambassadors for Christ.
• Equipping and partnering with parents to be the leaders of faith in their homes.
• The spiritual formation and growth of children.
• Increasing the impact of our ministry as we build deeper relationships with volunteers and children to reach children with the message of God’s grace.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL SCHWEITZER STAFF

• Leads boldly to make the right things happen and seeks continual improvement in ministry.
• Safe sanctuary certified.
• Is or will become a member at Schweitzer and fulfills the membership covenant of prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
• Is supportive of Wesleyan theology.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, theologically equipped, can develop and lead a ministry that is Christ-centered and culturally engaging.
• At least 5 years of experience in vocational ministry or a related field.
• Strong organizational skills, with ability to strategize, plan, and implement a variety of ministries and events.
• Intrinsically motivated.
• Experience recruiting and overseeing volunteers.
• Strong communication skills, inclusive of kids, parents, and ministry leaders.
• Ability to quickly recognize and resolve problems, finding appropriate solutions.
• Proficient with Microsoft or Google business applications.
• Physical requirements:
• Ability to sit, stand and walk for an extended period of time.
• Ability to bend, stoop and reach.
• Ability to lift lbs without assistance.
• Ability to push and pull carts.
• Hearing (with or without accommodation) and speaking.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities and on-going tasks include (but are not limited to):

• Facilitates a dynamic Sunday morning experience in which parents and kids are welcomed and feel known by leaders and volunteersparents and kids feel excited to share their experience at church with otherskids are eager to participateparents are encouraged to make other connections at Schweitzer
• Wisely stewards the ministry budget.
• Selects, creates, and uses curriculum for ministry; formats, edits, and gathers materials to be used
• Collaborates with the other Family Ministries staff and volunteers to provide a summer ministry event that includes both church families and community members.
• Boldly teaches children to find and follow Jesus Christ using both traditional and non-traditional methods and specified and unspecified curriculum.
• Develops and implements a strategy that engages and resources parents in the first steps of their ongoing responsibility of sharing the Gospel & discipling their child.
• Communicates frequently with parents and volunteers, keeping them well-informed and equipped while creating an atmosphere of safety and trust.
• Ensures volunteers are Safe Gatherings certified and compliant. Minimum ratio of leaders to kids is 1:5.
• Helps to maintain clean and organized classrooms, workspaces, and storage areas.
• Participates in weekly staff meetings, and other meetings as needed.
