Construction Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY This position is for a full-time Construction Engineer in our Construction Services Group in our Saginaw, St. Johns, East Lansing, Dundee, and Bingham Farms office locations.

A TYPICAL DAY ON THE JOB

• Acts as client, contractor, and project manager liaison for the construction of municipal and MDOT infrastructure projects.
• Observation of construction work in progress to ensure conformance with specifications, examining workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards, and maintaining detailed records of work performed by contractors.
• Communicates directly with clients and owners, holds and attends meetings, reviews shop drawings, performs quantity take offs, and generates preliminary estimates of cost.
• Performs office technician duties such as reviewing certified payrolls, reviewing IDR’s for compliance to standards, generating pay estimates and contract modifications.
• Familiarity with MDOT specifications, standard plans, and work practice is preferred.
• Conducts material testing as related to: grout inspection and testing, HMA sampling, concrete sampling and testing, aggregate sampling, mechanical testing of aggregates, compaction testing for granular, aggregate, clay, and HMA materials.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• E.I.T. or P.E., a plus
• Construction inspection experience, preferably in the areas of municipal infrastructure, MDOT Road, and Bridge Construction
• Valid driver’s license
