Detailed Position Information
The Department of History at the University of Alabama invites applications for a full-time renewable contract Instructor position. The appointment will begin with a one-year contract followed by the possibility of renewal.

The holder of the position will teach courses combining introductory surveys in American Civilization, Western Civilization, World Civilization, and/or the History of Science with upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. The department welcomes applicants specializing in any geographic or chronological field of history. Minimum qualifications include a PhD in History or closely related field in hand by August 15, 2026, when the position begins.

Applicants should submit a CV and cover letter that highlight the applicant’s teaching experience and effectiveness. Candidates may be asked for 2-3 letters of reference and teaching materials (such as sample syllabi) at a later stage. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.
