JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Software Engineer II, you will be working within an energetic agile team implementing solutions that support a wide range of customers. You will develop high quality web-based applications for new and existing features. You will also have the opportunity to bring your creative ideas to the table to deliver better solutions to our users.
You will work with a fast-paced, skilled team of developers, product owners, data conversion engineers, and quality assurance engineers across a portfolio of data conversion tools, with development responsibility for your assigned projects. Much of your success in this role will be dependent upon your ability to develop solutions that fully meet customer expectations and deadlines with no/minimal defects or rework needed.
Core Requirements and Responsibilities (Essential job functions, but are not limited to the following):
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
- Document, architect, and develop forward-thinking technical specifications and solutions based on business requirements.
- Confidently communicate technical concepts to others and recommend appropriate solutions for core Vertafore products.
- Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and related backend and front end code to create and enhance data conversion tools.
- Participate in code reviews and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Working with large data sets.
- Create and define valuable artifacts and documents for the team and external stakeholders.
- Ensure optimal performance, quality, and responsiveness of ETL applications by identifying and resolving bottlenecks and bugs.
- Maintain code quality, organization, and automated tests.
- Experience working with REST API-driven applications and tools.
- Working in small teams, completing tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Defining, refining, and enforcing software development procedures, standards, and methodologies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of C#/.NET, Python, Java, or similar programming languages.
- Strong understanding of database technologies such as MS SQL or PostgreSQL.
- Strong understanding of data processing pipelines, ETL, and data conversion/migration tooling.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of database schema design and normalization.
- Highly proficient using SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio, or IntelliJ.
- Experienced with React and other front-end technologies.
- Proficient in software version control tools like Git.
- Comfortable working with Copilot or other AI tools to create, enhance, and augment code.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS), insurance, and insurance applications a plus.
- An innate curiosity about how things work, and staying current with the latest industry tools, trends, and technologies.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience with design, architecture, and implementation of enterprise level tools and applications in a production environment.
- 3+ years of experience with database technologies (e.g., MS SQL Server, SSIS and BIML files, etc.).

· Travel required up to 10% of the time.
· Located and working from an office location.
· Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.
· Frequent repetitive hand and arm movements required to operate a computer.
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (working on a computer, etc.).
