Summary:
The Laboratory Technician performs chemical, biological, physical, and mechanical analyses to support research, development, application engineering, and quality control activities. Working with moderate supervision, the technician identifies routine issues, assists in problem resolution, and follows established laboratory procedures and methods to ensure accurate testing and reliable results. The role involves compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and documenting data while collaborating effectively within a self-directed team. Candidates should possess laboratory or technical experience, strong mechanical and chemical aptitude, computer proficiency, and excellent communication and time management skills.
Responsibilities:
- Perform chemical, biological, physical, and mechanical analyses and laboratory testing.
- Support application engineering, research, development, and quality control activities.
- Compile, analyze, interpret, and document laboratory results.
- Identify issues and assist in troubleshooting under moderate supervision.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), laboratory methods, and safety protocols.
- Work collaboratively in a self-directed team environment.
- Handle laboratory equipment and conduct experiments safely.
- Work in industrial laboratory environments with exposure to dust, dirt, and industrial fluids.
- Lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs as required.
- Maintain flexibility to occasionally work outside standard business hours.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or coursework in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent technical experience.
- Previous experience working in a laboratory or technical environment.
- Strong understanding of chemical, biological, physical, and mechanical testing principles.
- Experience with or knowledge of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) analyzers is preferred.
- Knowledge of dissolved gas analysis, water filtration, water treatment, and analytical testing is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with scientific principles including physical chemistry, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
- Knowledge of chemical handling, laboratory safety, and safe use of laboratory equipment.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to accurately compile, interpret, and document laboratory data.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency with computers and standard software applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in an industrial laboratory environment with exposure to dust, dirt, and industrial fluids.
