Your responsibilities will include collaborating with staff to address health issues, managing student health records, and developing emergency preparedness responses. You will adhere to school policies while communicating vital health and safety information, and implementing strategies to enhance safety and accessibility across our facilities.Your role may also involve handling the accident report process, providing attention to ill or injured students, administering first aid, and ensuring compliance with medical authorizations. Join us in making a lasting impact on the health and safety of our vibrant Portland school!What we're looking for in a Health & Safety SubstituteTo excel as a Part-Time On-Call Health & Safety Substitute at The International School of Portland, you'll need a blend of compassion, resourcefulness, and strong communication skills. Your passion for our school's mission will drive your interactions with young children in Pre-K through 5th grade, ensuring their comfort when ill or injured. The ability to remain calm under pressure and accurately assess emergency situations is vital.As a collaborative team player, you will work seamlessly with co-workers while also demonstrating independence. Attention to detail is essential for managing health records and accident reports as needed. Being CPR and First Aid certified, along with experience with young children, is important.Preferred qualifications such as EMT or Medical Assistant certification, or a Bachelor's degree would be so helpful, or bilingual abilities (but not required) will set you apart in our diverse, forward-thinking community.Knowledge and skills required for the position are:Passionate about the mission and vision of the schoolFriendly and confident interaction with young children in the Pre-K through 5th gradeCompassionate attitude to provide comfort to injured or ill studentsSelf-motivated & proactiveResourceful and creative problem solverAbility to remain calm in stressful situationsAbility to assess and prioritize emergency situationsCollaborative team player who can work together with co-workers in a team setting and work independently Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate information in the most efficient manner possibleAbility to communicate effectively and professionally orally and in writing with a broad range of internal and external constituentsRequired Qualifications:High school or GEDCPR Certified or can be renewed with the schoolFirst Aid Certified or can be recertified with the schoolA minimum of 6 months experience working with young childrenCommunicate fluently in written and spoken EnglishAble to pass a background check and get licensed with (OELD) Oregon Early Learning Division Office of Child background checkPreferred Qualifications:Certified as an EMT would be great but not necessaryMedical Assistant or LVN is nice but not necessaryComfortable with Google Suite or Office would be helpfulBachelor's Degree or equivalent experienceBilingual: Communicate fluently in written and spoken English and any of the languages taught at the school: Spanish, Japanese or Chinese but not required for this roleComfortable in an international communityJoin us!So, what do you think?
