POSITION TITLE: Therapeutic Recreation Director
REPORTS TO: Recreation Director
FLSA: Nonexempt FT and PT Postion availiable
TRD Certificate required
POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Recreation Director is responsible for assisting the
Recreation Director in the development, implementation and supervision of the full scope of
recreation services.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Puts Customer Service First: Ensures that customers and families receive the highest quality
of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs
and rights.
2. Gathers information necessary to complete comprehensive assessment.
3. Assists Recreation Director in planning individual and group programs in accordance with
the patient’s needs, preferences, interests, abilities, and are consistent with treatment goals
and interventions.
4. Encourages patient involvement in recreation services planning.
5. Contributes to the implementation of meaningful individual and group recreation programs
that incorporate creative, intellectual, physical, service, social and spiritual elements based on
resident preference.
6. Documents the residents’ participation and progress in recreation programming.
7. Maintains records that support planning and ongoing program evaluation and revision.
8. Assists in establishing and maintaining an effective volunteer program through recruiting,
screening, orienting, training, supervising, evaluating, and recognizing volunteers.
9. Provides resources and materials to address the special interests of residents for independent
engagement.
10. Meet program goals and performance objectives;
11. Assists in the orientation, supervision and coaching of recreation assistants.
12 Develops positive relationships with members of the patients’ families:
13. Orients family members to recreation services and encourages families to participate in programs.
14 Ensures that all recreation programs adhere to safety and infection control standards.
15 Ensures confidentiality of all protected information.
16 Is knowledgeable and upholds resident rights.

EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. High school degree and
2. Completion of the NAAP/NCCAP Modular I Course for Activity Professionals
or Certification in accordance with regulatory agencies governing the center, by the National
Certification Council of Activity Professionals (ADC) or the National Council of Therapeutic
Recreation Certification (CTRS) or, (TRD) Therapeutic Recreation Certificate
3. Has one (1) year of full-time experience in a social or recreational program within the last 2
years in a health care setting.
4. This position requires that the employee is able to read, write, speak and understand the
spoken English language to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our patients and visitors at the
work site when responding to their medical and physical needs.
