Database Engineer

Adaptive Solutions Group is a premier provider of information technology personnel. We provide a variety of technical professionals available for contract, contract to hire, or direct placement positions to companies in and around the St. Louis and Kansas City areas. We are currently looking for a Database Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Design new databases and enhance existing database environments.
• Write and maintain SQL queries and Transact-SQL (T-SQL) stored procedures.
• Troubleshoot database issues, identify root causes, and document and implement effective solutions.
• Optimize database performance through query rewriting, indexing, execution plan analysis, and database design improvements.
• Work closely with Software Engineers and Data Scientists to improve data flow from collection through reporting.
• Gather requirements from stakeholders and translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Create, manage, and monitor data pipelines, including ETL/ELT processes.
• Monitor database environments and take appropriate action when system or performance issues arise.
• Maintain technical documentation and follow database development best practices.
• Adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Continuously develop new technical skills and stay current with relevant technologies.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 4+ years of experience working with SQL Server and data engineering.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, T-SQL, database design, and normalization.
• Strong understanding of SQL Server database engine concepts, including buffer pool, parallelism, execution plans, and indexing.
• 2+ years of experience creating, managing, and monitoring ETL/ELT data pipelines.
• Experience working with C#, .NET, and/or Python.
• 2+ years of experience working with Business Intelligence (BI) tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage shifting priorities and move between different projects and technical challenges as business needs change.
• Positive attitude with a strong desire to learn and grow.
• Ability and willingness to work fully onsite, five days per week, in the greater St. Louis region.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting databases and applications operating at scale.
• Experience collaborating with Software Engineering and Data Science teams.
• Experience gathering technical requirements directly from business stakeholders.
• Strong database performance tuning and optimization experience.
