Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic performs routine and corrective maintenance on machinery, building systems, and facility infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This role inspects, diagnoses, repairs, and rebuilds mechanical equipment while following established procedures, technical documentation, and safety standards. The Maintenance Mechanic works with a variety of tools and equipment, supports equipment installations and modifications, and helps maintain a clean and orderly work area in a demanding industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance inspections and tasks to ensure machines operate smoothly, building systems function efficiently, and the physical condition of facilities remains in good repair.
  • Inspect drives, motors, belts, and related components, check fluid levels, replace filters, and complete other scheduled maintenance actions by following established checklists.
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation after repairs.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate corrective actions using blueprints, repair manuals, parts catalogs, and other technical documentation.
  • Install, replace, and change machine parts and attachments according to diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams.
  • Reassemble machines after completing repair or maintenance work and verify that all components are properly installed and secured.
  • Set up and operate machines and adjust controls to regulate operations and achieve desired performance.
  • Start machines and observe mechanical operation to evaluate efficiency, detect issues, and identify potential problems before failures occur.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges to ensure proper alignment and operation.
  • Align and balance new equipment after installation to meet operational and safety specifications.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools while following safe lifting and handling practices.
  • Examine used parts and determine changes in dimensional requirements using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Use a wide range of common hand and power tools, including hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Set up and operate machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and specialized tools as needed.
  • Operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts in support of equipment repair and fabrication activities.
  • Clean machines and machine parts using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment to maintain performance and extend equipment life.
  • Collaborate with co-workers and contractors to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment, ensuring safe and coordinated efforts.
  • Collect and discard worn machine parts and other refuse in proper receptacles according to site requirements to maintain safe and orderly work areas.
  • Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other materials between work areas and storage using cranes, hoists, or dollies.
  • Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Lubricate or apply adhesives and other materials to machines, machine parts, or equipment following specified procedures and schedules.
  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery to reduce wear and prevent breakdowns.

Essential Skills

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues on industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Hands-on experience performing mechanical repairs, including disassembly, replacement, and reassembly of components.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems and the ability to maintain and repair hydraulic components.
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic systems and the ability to maintain and repair pneumatic components.
  • Demonstrated experience performing preventive maintenance on machines and facility systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from mechanical blueprints, diagrams, and schematic drawings.
  • Proficiency with welding for cutting and joining metal parts in maintenance and repair applications.
  • Skilled use of hand tools and power tools, including hammers, saws, drills, wrenches, hoists, and similar equipment.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, and micrometers to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Capability to set up and operate machine tools for repairing or fabricating machine parts and fixtures.
  • Ability to operate cutting torches and welding equipment safely and effectively.
  • Must have and maintain a valid . state driver’s license.
  • Minimum education requirement of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry and basic recordkeeping.
  • Ability to comply with company policies related to safety, conduct, attendance, and required experience and record checks.

  • Experience working in heavy industrial environments, such as plants or large facilities.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers and contractors.
  • Attention to detail in following checklists, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and respond to equipment issues promptly.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and maintaining a clean, organized work area.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $35.00/hr.
