Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and self-motivated Electrical Engineer II to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the electrical design of FPGA, board, and system-level hardware, as well as managing the electronic component database supply chain lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with interdepartmental teams—including design engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing—to create modular product configurations and support product integration and testing. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, a thorough understanding of electronic components, and the communication skills necessary for customer-facing technical support.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Electrical design of FPGA, board, and system-level hardware. Support PWB layout activities.
  • Manage the electronic component database supply chain lifecycle (PCNs, EOL, LTB, etc.).
  • Create modular product configurations per customer requirements.
  • Support product integration, verification, and validation testing.
  • Support the creation of engineering and production documentation including requirements and design specifications, test plans, and test procedures.
  • Provide engineering technical support to the manufacturing department and external customers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The applicant MUST have the following qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering) with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Experience in Component Engineering and electronic product design.
  • Thorough understanding of electronic component parameters and data sheets.
  • Experience in design of embedded microprocessor systems.
  • FPGA design experience using a hardware description language.
  • Schematic capture experience (Altium preferred).
  • Experience in debugging electronic hardware and embedded software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills (system specifications, test procedures, test reports).
  • Clear interpersonal communicator with strong verbal communication skills in customer-facing situations.
  • Ability to collaborate with interdepartmental teams (design engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, etc.).
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

Additional Desirable Experience:

  • Experience using data intelligence tools to perform component risk analysis, manage part obsolescence, monitor PCN alerts, and verify BOM health (SiliconExpert, Altium, Z2Data, etc.).
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis to determine the underlying cause of component failures.
  • Reliability engineering including parts stress analysis, reliability predictions (MTBF), and Failure Mode Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
  • Experience in the design and development of precise time and frequency reference systems.
  • Network design experience including Ethernet and network time protocols (NTP/PTP/PTTI).
  • Active Security Clearance.

Mental Qualifications:

  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze complex data sheets, electronic component parameters, and schematic designs. Effectively solves complex technical problems and conducts root-cause analysis on component failures.
  • Problem-Solving: Capacity to conduct root cause analysis and debug complex electronic hardware and embedded software.
  • Information Processing: Ability to evaluate component risk, part obsolescence, and bill-of-materials (BOM) health data.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in writing technical system specifications, test plans, and reliability predictions.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Ability to articulate engineering concepts and complex technical data into clear documentation and customer-facing verbal explanations. Seamlessly coordinate with interdepartmental teams, such as purchasing and manufacturing.
  • Independent Judgment: Work efficiently with minimal supervision as a self-motivated engineer.
  • Statistical Analysis: Conduct reliability predictions (MTBF) and stress analysis (FMECA).

Physical Traits and Abilities:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Utilize computer peripherals for precise schematic capture and PWB layout support.
  • Visual Acuity: Close visual acuity to read data sheets, perform PWB layout reviews, and inspect miniature hardware circuitry.
  • Tactile Hardware Debugging: Safely operate laboratory test equipment to debug physical electronic hardware.
  • Stationary Work: Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods during design, documentation, and system specification writing.
  • Manual Dexterity: Manual dexterity sufficient for operating computer equipment, laboratory testing tools, and handling small components.
  • Mobility & Lifting: Occasional moving about the facility and lifting or positioning electronic test equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
