Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This Electrical Engineer role focuses on managing and delivering complex power system designs for municipal water and wastewater facilities and industrial projects in South Florida. You will lead projects from concept through construction, including electrical schematics, load calculations, and system analysis, while ensuring compliance with industry standards and collaborating closely with clients and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project management activities, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating resources to ensure successful delivery of electrical engineering projects.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with clients, providing regular updates, managing expectations, and building strong long-term relationships.
  • Provide people management and leadership within project teams, supporting colleagues and fostering effective collaboration.
  • Prepare detailed technical documents, reports, and specifications for electrical power distribution, lighting, grounding, and control systems.
  • Perform system modeling and analysis for electrical power systems, including load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and coordination studies using E-Tap and SKM tools.
  • Function as the Designer/Project Engineer on projects involving medium and low voltage power distribution systems, lighting systems, and grounding systems for municipal water and wastewater facilities and industrial projects.
  • Develop design details for 480V electrical power distribution systems, lighting systems, and control systems for major industrial and complex commercial facilities using recognized industry standards and specifications.
  • Ensure all designs and project deliverables comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and specifications for electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Coordinate with CAD drafters to create new drawings or modify existing drawings, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Conduct field investigations and condition assessments of electrical power distribution and control equipment to evaluate existing systems and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, construction, and operations, to integrate electrical designs into broader project plans.
  • Oversee construction activities related to electrical systems, providing guidance, answering technical questions, and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Develop and propose innovative, cost-effective solutions tailored to client needs, enhancing project efficiency and performance.
  • Contribute to strategies that improve project efficiency, reduce costs, and deliver impactful results for clients and stakeholders.
  • Support the continued growth of South Florida operations by participating in high-profile regional projects and remote work for other locations as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum of 8 years of design and engineering experience for buildings, including electrical power distribution on industrial or large complex commercial projects.
  • Proven expertise in power system design, including medium and low voltage distribution systems for industrial and municipal facilities.
  • Strong experience with electrical schematics and system analysis for power distribution and control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, and coordination studies using electrical analytical software such as E-Tap and SKM tools.
  • Working knowledge of standards and codes pertaining to electrical distribution and control systems.
  • Experience with lighting systems, grounding systems, and control systems for industrial and municipal applications.
  • Ability to conduct condition assessments and field investigations of electrical power distribution and control equipment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for reviewing and coordinating electrical drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation, reporting, and analysis.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with supervisors, colleagues, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to complex electrical engineering challenges.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with municipal water and wastewater treatment plant projects is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in industrial facilities and large complex commercial projects.
  • Preliminary knowledge of instrumentation devices such as level, pressure, temperature, and flow instruments is preferred.
  • Proficiency in industry-relevant software, tools, and system modeling applications beyond E-Tap and SKM is an advantage.
  • Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Comfort working in a casual, informal environment that emphasizes client satisfaction and project outcomes over formal performance appraisals.

Work Environment

The work environment is casual and informal, with a culture that emphasizes hiring great people, giving them the freedom to complete their work, and providing support when needed. Performance is evaluated based on client satisfaction rather than formal performance appraisals. The organization is stable, focuses on long-term growth rather than project-based hiring, and has maintained employment levels even during economic downturns. The South Florida office operates as part of a larger, multi-office company and offers a strong backlog of work in the tri-county area and other locations that can be supported remotely. The role is based in the Fort Lauderdale office, with an expectation to be on-site four days per week and the option to work from home on Fridays. You will occasionally attend in-person meetings in the tri-county area, typically one to two times per month.
