Job Summary

Schedule: Thursday and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; every other weekend: Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Under the general direction of the Manager, the Radiologic Technologist performs a variety of patient care and diagnostic imaging duties through the safe and effective operation of radiographic equipment. This role produces high-quality diagnostic images using proper technique, radiation safety standards, and department protocols while delivering an exemplary patient experience.
The Radiologic Technologist explains exams, procedures, and safety protocols to patients; operates fluoroscopic, portable, diagnostic, and other imaging equipment as required; and works both independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary care team. The role is assigned to one designated radiography area, such as Inpatient, Outpatient, or Emergency Room, but may be asked to provide coverage in alternate locations or Mass General Brigham sites, with appropriate training, based on operational needs.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Confirm the correct patient and exam through patient identification, interview, history review, and medical record verification.

  • Explain imaging exams and procedures clearly while considering each patient’s physical, emotional, cultural, and language needs.

  • Position patients appropriately and adjust imaging equipment to the correct settings for each exam.

  • Perform diagnostic imaging using radiographic, fluoroscopic, portable, and related equipment according to department protocol and/or Radiologist request.

  • Apply radiation safety principles, including ALARA, proper shielding, and safe imaging practices for patients, staff, and visitors.

  • Review images for quality, accuracy, labeling, and completeness before transmission to PACS.

  • Ensure images are successfully transmitted to PACS and available for Radiologist interpretation.

  • Document exams, patient information, modifications, and relevant clinical details accurately in the appropriate systems.

  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency, infection control, and patient safety situations.

  • Collaborate with Radiologists, nurses, providers, technologists, and other members of the care team to support efficient workflow and high-quality patient care.

  • Maintain professional composure and communication when working with patients, families, and colleagues who may be under physical or emotional stress.

  • Support department operations by assisting with coverage needs, workflow adjustments, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Certificate or diploma in Radiography required.

  • Associate’s degree in Radiography preferred.

  • Experience may not be accepted in lieu of the education requirement.

Licensure and Certification

  • Radiologic Technologist and Technician state license required, as applicable.

  • Registered Technologist credential through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required within 90 days of hire.

  • ARRT Radiography registration preferred at time of hire.

Experience

  • 0–1 year of radiology technology experience preferred.

  • Clinical rotation or hands-on experience in diagnostic radiography, portable imaging, fluoroscopy, outpatient, inpatient, or emergency settings is helpful.
